Recording midi Behringer rd9 in Logic Pro

First off, I’m an idiot with recording. Now, I will try to explain what my issue is recording midi with the behringer rd9 .

I’m able to record midi drums in logic with the behringer but when I turn the drum machine off, the sound on the midi track disappears. Also, when put effects on the track or try to eq, nothing happens. So, the question is, how the heck can I record midi tracks from my behringer rd9 in Logic Pro. What am I missing?
