Logic Default MIDI channel for new notes

How can I set a track to create all new notes on a specific channel? In the inspector, I know how to route MIDI to another channel but that isn’t actually changing the embedded data in the notes themselves. When I export MIDI tracks from Logic it seems like most tracks are creating data on either channel 1 or 9 by default. Any input would be appreciated, I didn’t realize the inspector and the actual MIDI notes had different data until recently and that has been confusing the task of getting a clean MIDI export for my project.
