Any AUv3 PDF viewer with scrolling? SOLVED with JustChords

I'm looking for an AUv3 app where I can load a prepared song in a PDF file and set the autoscroll speed according to the BPM in AU host (Loopy Pro) project. Does anyone know of such an app? I've googled it, but without success.
I have a lot of songs (over 300) with annotations and special tags, and I'd like to use them on the iPad without transcribing them into standard formats like ChordPro or SongBook Pro.

  • Have you looked at Stage Traxx 3?
    https://apps.apple.com/au/app/stage-traxx-3/id1448493366
This might do what you want. I think you can program the pages to move at intervals determined by time and use it just as a reader without music. Haven’t looked at it for a while. It’s not AUv3, but it looks like you can connect it via Audiobus which might be the next best thing.

  • Thank you @Mountain_Hamlet, I didn't know this one. I'm aware that there are several apps which allows me to show and scroll lyrics in PDF (MobileSheets, SongBookPro, Setlist Helper, ... ) but I would like to have all-in-one solution like Camelot Pro or KeyStage are where I can easily change of prepared songs.
And because I really like my Loopy Pro I'm trying to find a PDF viewer in AUv3 first.

Loopy pro does Split Screen like a champ. Maybe you don’t really need AUv3.

Yes, but this approach has drawbacks for me. For one particular song, you have to open the LP project and then search and open the PDF in another app. Then set the autoscroll speed in it (I don't use any BT foot controller) as it should match the BPM in the LP. Or periodically send some MIDI command "do scroll a little bit" from the LP project. And even initialize the scroll start according to the LP.

But, for something like Traxx the scrolling bit is preprogrammed for each song and then you forget about it. Then you’re just looking for the song and not being concerned about scrolling adjustments. Might be worth experimenting with. You can try it for free and see if it will work or not. The BPM will be matched through Audiobus so it will all be synced if set up correctly.
How Traxx works is that you setup the song with the pdf document, give it the song length and then you place timeline information for where and when you want the PDF to change position. You don’t need to place an audio track in there to use the PDF capabilities. By using Audiobus as the sync link Traxx will follow LP through the song.

  • Web AU will let you view and scroll any pdf that’s available online. Developer also has a session notes Au app but I don’t know if you can import text/pdf… if not that be a cool addition.

    Oh yea…

Media Assistant should be able to do the trick. I’ve never tried that but I feel like it will work.

  • Media Assistant 100% does it, but you have to buy the AU IAP to use it as an AU in a host though.

WebAU has a brother/sister app by the same developer which might be even more relevant : https://apps.apple.com/au/app/session-notes-au/id1552595478

Wow. The apps you discover as AU….who would’ve thunk it?

Session Notes probably is not a good fit for this use. It doesn't handle pdfs, it doesn't have a mechanism to call up notes via midi nor does it retain state info in the host.

Thank you @Mountain_Hamlet and @Poppadocrock for your suggestions.
Traxx: Good to know that scrolling speed information is saved internally. Frankly this is so crucial for any kind of "lyrics" app that I have no idea why I completely ignore it. My fault.
Web AU, Media Assistant - I don't want to be dependent on internet connection at all. I already have Web AU and don't see any mention about autoscroll nor possibility to load PDF file from internal iPad storage.
SessionNotes - this looks interesting but there is no mention about PDF or autoscroll support. I'll ask in dedicated thread. EDIT: OK, @espiegel123 was faster, thank you for clarification.

PS: I'm in contact with dev of Just Chords, he's a very nice and open person. JC already has autoscroll and PDF support, but for now you can't import PDF into the main part of app where autoscroll is supported. You can only import it as "Sheet music" attachment. So we will see.

  • Yes I also can highly recommend JustChords!
What a great app and super nice dev!

Fair point. Oh well, saw the potential without reading too much detail.

I recently started using JustChords and highly recommend it. I can confirm that PDF's do not autoscroll, but the dev is super responsive and it's probably worth waiting.

    wow! just chords.
exactly what I also needed. Thank you for the suggestions.

It states also IAP but is that for additional functionality or tipping the dev?

Yes, IAP is just for tips.

I'm pleased to announce here that PDF autoscroll is now fully supported from version 8.2 build 8201 (beta TestFlight). Both in standalone and in AUv3.
    Kudos to @marekpalka!
