That may be an unwelcome PM, but it's a legitimate link for a legitimate test-flight of the Synethesia app. And they did post the invite publicly in the thread mentioned.

Personally, I'd say that toes the line of being Spam, and maybe does cross it. Most spammers though are drive-by's that drop their spam load until they're banned, not regular forum contributors. That user has been a member since 2021 and all other content is legit. Maybe not a well advised PM, but not a scam or phishing link.

Not a good look though, especially when it leads to a telegram post. You were wise to be wary. You can always block any user you don't want to receive PM's or read posts from.

Good job bringing it to the moderators' attention.

Oh ok I see now thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I made an assumption and was wrong. I was confused why they were PMing and I was wary of being PM’d a link and my first read of the user name was that it too sounded questionable. I’ve also been in other groups where people PM a link that ends up being a virus or something along those lines and was worried someone was taking the fact that people jump on TestFlight invites to scam someone and so I quickly made the post before looking into the things you pointed out (how long they have been a member, other content and activity ) which I will remember to do in future.

So yeah in terms of marketing and outreach strategies if they want to consider things that would help I would say if they are going to PM something like , they may have better luck if they link to their public post as well for reference , for those of us who may have missed it in a thread and who aren’t familiar with them. I don’t feel a need to block in this situation but definitely would if I was contacted in ways that were not comfortable to me.

You shouldn't have to sort something like that out, and I'm sure the moderators won't mind.

I only looked into it myself because I have decades of experience investigating spam, phishing, and security threats. If not for that and I got something linking to a Telegram post? No way I'd risk it.
