I use one of the Griffin studio connects with lightning and I can keep the ipad at full charge at the same time I am recording and can even record my external hardware to the ipad at the same time through the same unit. It is highly portable and the price is nice too.

I'm super tempted by those 2GB RAM. But I promised myself I would keep this for 2 years. But promises are made to be broken, I think? Yep definitely. I..think..Hm..I should stay away from here when you get your new pads :(

Let me help you a bit with the force: "This is not the iPad you are looking for" :)

  • Thank you, that did help somewhat.

  • Chris imagine.. September 2014 (only 10month from today) iPad Air 3, 4Gb ram, quadcore...

  • September 2015, sorry :)

Indeed, any news about StudioConnect HD?

  • Thank you Apple for not including the separate charger and 24hr battery life in your iPads so I can take a break from making music and get inspired by the world around me. Also thank you for saving my hearing, sight from damage and my brain from constant radiation. When I mix it also gives my ears a break so I can mix more objectively.

  • Of course they didn't, c'mon now :)

Interesting findings there, @Viabcroce. I wonder if there's any hard research on the best way to maximize battery life in the various iDevices—and in laptops, for that matter.

    Thanks dude :)

Well, what I mentioned above + the usual software-level energy saving strategies you'll find commonly mentioned all over the net should do the (some good) trick :)

  • It's an interesting time for iPad. I hear tech people on TV shouting that demand for the iPad will go down now that we have a 5.5" screen iPhone as an option. I would actually LOVE for there to be a single iOS device, that is personal to me and that I upgrade every 2 years on a subsidized phone contract. That would be great.

But iOS music is HEAVILY iPad-slanted. So despite the fact that I have a much more powerful device in my pocket, my aging (now discontinued) iPad2 remains my "primary" music device, despite all of its performance limitations.

An interesting question would be if developers of these synths, DAW's, and other apps that tend to rarely be released for iPhone are going to become more iPhone friendly now that the screen is perhaps just big enough to be workable for mobile music production. I'm sure Apple would prefer that I continue to buy a new iPad every two or three years along with my subsidized phone, but that just isn't realistic for a lot of people.

  • Every autumn we have new idevices, isnt it?

  • The iPad Air 2 has a GeekBench score that’s about the same as the 2014 MacBook Air.

  • The first reports from a user with one in their hand is that there are still a number of problems with audio and stuttering on it. I'm pretty sure said person will be leaving their own report in the forums at some point. Bottom line - don't hold your breath folks. Since it has the horsepower, that would seem to be down to iOS 8 still not being audio-app-friendly.
