Playing dRambo+Loopy Pro together.
For the advanced Loopy Pro users.
I'm trying to get dRambo and Loopy Pro to play together.
Its all looping okay when recording however
I need Loopy Pro groups to play when I select a Pattern row in dRambo.
For instance when I play Pattern 3 in dRambo, LP then plays the grouped LP row 3
and when I change to say Pattern 1 in dRambo, LP then plays grouped Loopy Pro row 1.
I've managed to get it working up to a point however when trying to
automate the selection in Drambo, Loopy Pro plays overlapped or every time
the dRambo Clip repeats it will Play/Stop the LP loops which becomes an issue
when I have two or ore Patterns in dRambo triggering the same LP group over and over again
which basically starts/stops the loops, 16 on, 16 off.
I'm using CC messages sent from dRambo to LP using the same cc messages
that the LaunchPad X uses for the side buttons in Session Mode which are,
89,79,69,59,49,39,29,19.
Bear in mind this has also got work with a LaunchPad X.
Thanks in advance.

I sure can't answer, but find the setup interesting and maybe something I might try some time in the distant future. Do you have Drambo and Loopy both on standalone, or are you hosting one in the other?
dRambo is standalone hosting Loopy Pro.
This sounds like the play quantization needs adjusting or the actions you are triggering. I think I’d need to see a demonstration and all the settings that you have set up in your midi bindings.
I thought I would probably be able to help until you said it has also got to work with a LaunchPad X. Sorry, but trying to suss that out without the hardware to work directly with would most likely not be feasible.
drambo screenshot with the rack that I’m using to send CC messages and needing to automate.
Loopy Pro screenshot showing Button setting which is duplicated for the rest of the rows.
screenshot showing Button midi setting which is duplicated for the rest of the rows
with the exception being the aforementioned cc numbers.
No problem.
Once dRambo Play/Stop’s the rows properly then it’s almost 90% there.
@Gravitas:
what is the play quantization set to?
Can you post a screen recording demonstrating the problem?
It would be helpful to have a midi monitor showing so that I can see the event timing
Quantization is set to Custom.
Play quantization 8 bars
Stop quantization 8 bars with one row of Clips set to quantization at the Clip level as that row is recording 32 bars.
The dRambo CC messages are going directly into L-Pro via Audio Unit input.
The buttons on the dRambo patch are set to Momentary and no other midi messages are going into L-Pro.
By the way each row is Grouped so row 1 is group 1, row 2 is group2 etc going downwards.
On another note what I need is each row to made exclusive so when a widget is pressed
it lines up the row to played and quantize stops all the others.
What's happening at the moment is that it lines up the row and starts playing those loops
but it doesnt stop the others and I have to stop them manually.
Okay, I've been thinking about this for most of the afternoon and evening so
I'm going to do something else such as practicing guitar lines until tomorrow.
Thanks for your assistance I'll be back tomorrow.
@Gravitas : groups can be made mutually exclusive. In your screenshots, you are triggering clips , not groups
@Gravitas : a few more notes about mutual exclusivity.
The easiest way is to make groups. Go to groups mode in the editor, select clips to group and tap group in the popup. repeat to make your groups. Tap on each group and an options popup appears. Choose the relevant options. You can choose to make the group mutually exclusive with other groups.
For the widget to play the group, don't target specific clips. If you scroll the targets list, you will see a Play Groups section. Chose your group targets there.
Another way to mutually exclusively play clips is to use Solo rather than Play. Solo in this context essentially means Stop playing other clips and start playing the targeted clips.
I had thought that's what I was doing with the widgets by selecting
the Clips the way I had done apparently not so thanks for this.
Good tip.
I'll try this as well.
Thanks.
@Gravitas : choosing multiple clips is different from groups.
You make groups by using the groups tab which I’ve circled
When you select some clips , you can choose to group them
Tapping on a group gives you these options
Agreed.
Thank you.
I had discovered making Groups earlier and I simply hadn't made
the connection between the widget playing mutally exclusive Groups
rather than multiple Clips as you noticed from my earlier screenshots.
I've solved the issue now with your assistance and it's almost perfect.
There's still some tweaking and getting used to how it behaves
however I now have the dRambo Paterrns linked to the Group clip rows in L-Pro
and it's automating in dRambo to a certain degree which means
I can now match drum patterns or whatever else I have in dRambo
to the stuff I'm recording in L-Pro without to much hassle.
I'll post screenshots up tomorrow for those who need to do what I've done
and later on I'll make a Template available.
Once again thank you @espiegel123 and @wim
@Gravitas : if there is anything not doing what you want , let me know
Thank you, I will do.
I've been adding this in situ so to speak and the project is a bit unwieldy to just send over
so as soon as I've created the template I'll send it over to you for you to look at.
It's working very well so far, there's a couple of caveats but nothing to serious.:))
It makes creating guitar loops on the fly much, much easier.
By the way is there anyway to get around the 32 bar limit for the Clips?
There is no time limit for clips. I’ve recorded clips two hours long.
@Gravitas : are you wanting to manually pre-set length — if you describe more about what you want, I can explain how to do it.
Now this is good to know.
For the most part the 8 or 16 bar lengths works
for the groove based guitar lines I'm laying down
as I'm currently designing presets for MixBox.
My fingers were on fire a couple of days ago and that's when
I found out I could set the pre-recorded length for a Clip
to 32 bars as 32 bars was long enough for the guitar solo.
I've since deleted the solo as it wasn't good enough however
what I would like to know is if we can set the pre-length to 64 bars
or whatever length we like?
Pre-set lengths weren’t set up with arbitrary length in mind. You could create an empty clip in the sequencer of your desired length. The slider will show 32 bars but it will really record the length you drag out .
Or use a midi trigger to start and stop recording. You could set up a Drambo midi clip with notes set up to trigger recording start and stop.
Good to know both techniques.
I'll try them out over the next couple of days.
Thanks.
@espiegel123
Update.
Okay, I've figured out where I was going wrong with the current setup.
I had the widgets set to "Toggle" when they should've been set to 'Play".
So this is how I've got my dRambo hosting L-Pro setup.
L-Pro as auv3.
Create Clips.
Create Groups.
Assign Clips to Groups
set Groups to mutally exclusive+Loops play independently
Create Widgets
Assign widgets to relevant Groups
Set widgets to Play Groups (not the default "Toggle)
Assign cc messages to widgets
dRambo
Buttons + CC generator (multi) modules to send out cc messages on Main Track
Connect output of the CC generator multi to the midi input for L-Pro.
Buttons set to "Switch"
Create 8 cc messages or however many that you need. (I used the cc messages sent by the LP X)
Automate using the Main Track.
Make sure only 1 button is pressed or automated per Pattern
otherwise it will create a mess of overlapping clips in L-Pro.
By default the widget's in L-Pro are set to "Toggle" so when Transport was
stopped in dRambo it required 2 presses to get L-Pro to play again.
With the widget's set to "Play" it works as expected.
In regards to the templates, I need to simplify the dRambo project as I'm using beta modules.
Anyways,... I'll upload a video over the next couple of days of it working.
Okay, enough from me for now.
Later.
Cool. I look forward to seeing it on action.
@espiegel123
@Gravitas
You did it; that’s some cool funky fusion man
I gotta know more! Great job as always
Thank you.
I haven't played guitar and bass properly
in awhile so I decided to practice whilst
putting this particular project together.
By the way the MixBox presets will up
very soon.
That’s great! The drums sounds great, too. Did you finger drum them?
Thank you. 🙏🏾
Yes and no in regards to the finger drumming.
I needed each element isolated so I put each sound on seperate tracks
and played them individually.
Thinking about it I could reconfigure it so that the sounds can be played in one go.
I used to be a pro drummer so I generally know what I need to be played unless
I really need a drumkit which is going to be soon it seems.
I put this together so that I could create MixBox presets which
I'm putting up for sale on my Ko-fi site over the next couple of days.
It turns out I had way too much fun playing the guitar and bass
and getting dRambo and L-Pro playing well together.
My fingertips have lost skin and I now have bass blisters. Lolololol....
