The Audiobus Forum is now the Loopy Pro Forum!

In case you didn't see the announcement thread, I have some big news: Audiobus – the app – is going to a new home. Francesco and Andrea are developers and musicians who are keen to pursue Audiobus’ further potential, keep it updated and enhance the experience for users old and new – and unlike me, they have the resources to do so! They’re full of ideas and energy, and I am confident that Audiobus will be in good hands.

The Audiobus Forum, however, is staying right here with me. After some consultation with the community here about what to do, I've decided to rename it to the Loopy Pro Forum, at forum.loopypro.com.

It has a new name and new colours, but otherwise, it's the same place, and nothing else will change.

Cheers,
Michael

Meta accidentally suspended me on both Instagram and Facebook - what can I do ?

edited October 5 in Other

The story started when I created an account on Instagram that is linked to my FB account. There was nothing wrong with that account: I had not even posted anything and I only followed one music friend for a starter.

Next day I was suddenly unable to log in to Facebook. The message I got said: We suspended you Facebook account because your Instagram account violates our guidelines. I had the option to go to instagram and appeal - but only once. They threatened me that if they reject my appeal, I will be banned forever.
I did an appeal, it got approved and I got an apologetic email from Instagram that this was an error, but that they have to keep their community safe (LOL!).

I’m quite “Pappa Oscar” about seeing how they treat me like in an authoritarian state where people get arrested and sentenced and no reason is given. The language is intimidating and reeks of the American way of justice where you are guilty until proven innocent.
I wouldn’t be bothered about this, but that social media account is not only important privately, but for work and music too. And I am even admin of a Facebook group.

Now the Problem is that while Instagram is back, the Facebook account is still suspended (for the same reason), and there is no way to appeal or even contact support without being able to login. I tried to contact them via Instagram direct messaging and got no response. And I reported the problem to Instagram because it was their system that screwed up - no response either.
So what can I do now - any suggestions?

Sorry for the rant - it’s just an odd feeling to be eradicated from parts of cyberspace.

  • About 10 or 15 years ago, I thought I’d see what this Facebook lark was all about. I tried to set up an account, but something got screwed up. Ever since, any attempt to login, as myself, or under an alias, leads to a message telling me that account is already taken. As a result, I have never been able to access Facebook. I consider this a boon of inestimable value.

    Are you sure about that...?

When they sent their notice of mandatory AI malarkey yesterday with a requirement to log an objection that they would consider, I thought at least my chance of getting out had come. But when I responded simply saying either honour my objection or lose my account, they almost immediately came back with an approval. Looks like I’ll have to stay until I can really find the conviction to leave 😅

I've seen lots of people on Threads complain about this kind of thing. Both @zuck and @mosseri (head of Insta) have accounts on Threads, so maybe open an account there if you don't have one and holler at them. I think I heard that Mosseri does actually read his notifications.

Eg post from threads complaining about this

  • I tried logging in to an old Instagram account a few days ago, but it asked me to enter a code first. The code was sent to the email address used for that account.

Except it wasn’t sent. Despite trying the resend option many times, Instagram never sent the code (I checked with my host, too).

One of the things you find when you have a problem with these big tech companies, is their lack of support. The only support for Instagram, is via the app. So if you can’t login, you can’t get support. So I can never get access to my account, ever again.

The brick wall around these big companies is only going to get higher with this blasted AI. Welcome to the future.

You got that backward. That ain't the way it works here, in the criminal justice system anyway.

In the media? In a tax audit? With corporations when they can get away with it? yeh, pretty much.

US criminal justice system: here’s a plea deal. You’re innocent, but if you fight the case and lose: life without parole. Plead guilty (even though you are innocent.) ? Out in three. ‘Murica! Land of the Free! ;)

Tell that to Julian Assange, along with countless others.

EDIT: political stuff removed. My error.

  • I’ll be honest. It’s a lot harder to appeal an account than to start a new one with a new email.

So long as you’re not a bot, or violating their terms, anyone can create an account.

Hard part is to try and add or convince your friends on the previous account that you’re the same person.

But what do I know? All we are is dust in the wind…

Thanks for that tip @Gavinski . Reluctantly I joined Threads and posted a message. There is indeed quite some anger about account suspensions.

Alternatively: if you are as guilty as hell but have the money to pay a large law corporation with connections, ask for a plea deal and let the DA know that it will otherwise take decades to resolve because of constant stalling.

Same thing happened to me with Twitter. Saved me a lot of time and aggravation getting that drug out of my life.

  • What can you do? Thank your lucky stars, it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to you.

  • And hope they accidentally suspend all the other users

That was an espionage case - not the same as a regular U.S. criminal case where you are considered innocent until proven guilty.

Regardless of the application of the criminal laws used, because the use of legislation regarding terrorist activities is being applied to curb free-speech across quite a few Western states, the use of such chilling measures speaks volumes as to the often cited mantras like the ‘free West’, ‘land of the free’, ‘the free press’.

As was the case in 1917 authoritarian’s don’t like speech when it criticises their measures and actions.

As an admin of a Facebook group I am not sure about that one. But fore sure I will ditch Instagram the moment this has been sorted one way or the other. And Threads ? Looking at the “suggested for you” section this is a tacky dating network - get out!
Professionaly I will inform my clients to NEVER EVER use any Meta related service as SSO (single sign on) provider.

They are often cited because they are pretty much true.

In the USA you can criticise the government and call the President a fool. You can start your own political party and stand for office. The people vote to decide who is in government, not high ranking party officials.

Be glad you are in the West and not somewhere like Communist China or North Korea.

Then you'd really have something to complain about (not that you would be allowed to complain in those places...).

Unfortunately you can’t speak freely, the Espionage Act 1917, Socialists criticised the Wilson’s draft when that law was first used to stop this criticism.

Why be glad of being a citizen of the West, the colonial empire that still is as hypocritical as ever?

Just take a look at the Endless Wars instigated by the ethically superior West.
