Awesome video Doug , thank you!
Great video. It sounds really good.
Really looking forward to this one
You might want to watch this though. It cooled me off from buying it.
@qryss I’m not shure if the guy correctly tested the features: For MPE both notes and their expressions (pitchbend, aftertouch, CCs) have to be on different midi channels starting with channel 2. But in his video it looked like both notes were entered on channel one.
If one looks closely he enters them at 4:38 using the mouse and for both of them the channel selector to left clearly shows channel 1 (and their note name). I have to admit that i’m not familiar with Bitwig, but that‘s what i noticed.
With this input, MPE pitchbend or MPE aftertouch can‘t work as both are on the same channel - and for MPE its even defined that expressions on CH 1 are global… No wonder both changed pitch or both are affected by aftertouch
@_ki I wondered about the same. But considering that most musicians have never used MPE anyway, I think his main point is about the marketing model.
I was hoping for a new great sampler platform on iOS too, one that is open for contributors to share their own instruments, with IAPs from Audiomodern to get started with quality content. All good, Audiomodern want their share too and app development eats a lot of resources - only that it is now apparently restricted to Audiomodern library users.
Fair thing and not a big deal, AudioLayer has to do it for now 😊
@rs2000 But perhaps we are just unexperienced with bitwig and that‘s a special MPE pianoroll and the channel in the options window to the left doesn‘t matter in that case. For a normal pianoroll there wouldn’t be an optiob to enter per-note pitchbend curves… and bitwig should know about the allowed moe channels.
I watched Dougs video on Soundbox and considering my current eye-condition the MFS (Microscopic Font Syndrome) alone makes it a no f*king way I'll get that...
I personally don't think there is any problem whatsoever with people having to buy a pack to use the engine. It seems though that there was maybe, some kind of communication problem regarding pricing before release, at least as far as that reviewer is concerned.
It was initially promoted as a free download where it seemed you could use your own samples on the platform, or purchased sound packs.
I clicked their 'download for free' link when it was first advertised, but when I opened the installer it asked me to provide my 'purchase' details before I could download it. Which by anyone's measure isn't a free download. Deleted it straight after.
I loove the way though he says he's not going to talk about that, but then does. A lot
I'd pay IAP to increase the font-sizes a few hundred %
Initially it was marketed as 'free' without any mention that purchase of sounds packs (which I wouldn't use anyway) was needed to unlock the app to make own sounds.
Then again I will stay far away and clear of apps suffering of a severe case of MFS...
Right, if that's how it happened then that's definitely a mess-up on Audiomodern's side. They likely won't make a mistake like it again as that kind of thing is certainly very bad PR, as you know well from your own reaction to it! People are fuming in the comments of that vid
Totally. I'm very wary about downloading anything these days, so I checked their website documentation pretty thoroughly first before considering it. And as he says, the download button originally said 'FREE'. I thought it was a Kontakt type thing.
I was planning to give it a spin with some of my own samples first, and if it was any good buy a couple of sound packs, but hey - trust's gone. Shame as Riffer is still one of my favourite apps.
Audiomodern got it wrong - a case of slightly over zealous marketing.
But I think they are a good dev. They have been generous and given away some nice free apps in the past, so I'd cut them a bit of slack on this faux pas.
Who knows, Audiomodern might offer an affordable "software only" IAP for anyone who's only interested in the app alone.
Yes, I like their apps too and I'm happy to see another sampler on iOS!
/my mistake, sorry/
They stated that there would be free packs offered in the future similar to what they’ve done with their other apps so it’ll be interesting to see how those might work in this context.
Personally I love AudioMODERN apps and don’t begrudge them trying to find a model that makes their business sustainable in terms of pricing. I’d like to point out that there is nothing else like that vocal pack available on iOS currently so I think that makes it worth a purchase right there.
Totally agree with @Samu on the annoying MFS stylistic decision they continue to make. It’s like they are a company full of young people with perfect vision that have no idea what it’s like to be 50.
I won’t go so far as to let it stop me from buying it, though.
I actually don't think this is that different. On the one hand, Soundbox is "free" with any library purchase which is arguably a more generous approach. (I don't know if or how that model will be replicated on iPad.) The fact that the libraries are $30-40ish may seem like a steeper investment but they also seem like a lot more effort to produce than drum kits/patterns and that price is not out of line with many Kontakt libraries which is what this resembles imho. I'm pretty excited to see how this evolves to be honest.
Yeah, I thought it was too good to be true!

I love their apps but I’ve uninstalled them all because they’re so hard to read, at least through my aging corneas.
I really hope you have served them that; one sentence verdict in a mail, if not do!
I need to watch this again..He makes some good points but he also seems to be on some sort of vendetta here….thoughts?
I wonder what happened with this? It's been over a month since Doug's video and it looked ready to go then. The price of admission is a bit high especially when it looked like there were only two sound libraries to choose from. Maybe they're getting more ready? I guess I was intrigued enough to keep in on my radar.

I wonder what happened to this video, seems now to be ‘private’. Was that the Dash Glitch one?
What’s the price?
Not really a Kontakt killer. Native Instruments are doing a good enough job of that by themselves.
I think $30 for a sound library but then you can use it to import your own sounds.
Got the desktop version the Play. Engine now goes free with at least one free pack so you can try it out on desktop without spending a penny.
