Midi generators with clock recieve and start/stop
I tend to use my iPad more often as a midi sequencer (generator) for Reaper on my PC lately. For that, those (standalone (!)) iPad apps need to be able to receive Reaper's Clock and Start/Stop commands. Many standalone iPad apps would in principle be eligible for that, except that they often don't deliver!
For those interested... I investigated which iPad midi generators (that I have) meet my requirements regarding my Reaper use at the moment:
- fine (receive Clock + Start/Stop): Fugue Machine, Neon (the sequencer), Thesys, Xynthesizer (IAA) and Quantum (ditto).
- hardly: Zoa and Ooda (receive Clock, but no Start/Stop).
- not: Octachron, Chordbud (+ other 'buds'), Progressions (+ other '4Pockets'), Piano Motifs, Scaler 2, Midisteps, Riffer (+ other 'AudioModerns') and Refraktions (IAA).
It would be nice if AUM was updated with Midi-Clock Recieve (incl. start/stop), then in Reaper (for example) many more midi generators could be used!
ps.: Since I rediscovered Quantum Sequencer as a standalone sequencer for Reaper, I hesitate to buy Midistep from 4Pockets...

You can route external midi clock to AUv3 apps in AUM. Even though AUM can't follow the clock the plugins can receive it. If they can make use of the clock then they could be candidates too.
You could add dRambo to this list though I haven't tried it with Reaper as yet and maybe possibly MiRack?
miRack works with external midi clock. Lotta jitter though.
In my tests before, I found that the best way to deal with external midi clock is Audiobus. It handles jitter better than anything else, and can bridge to Link, making it possible to use with other apps like AUM.
Loopy Pro also works well with external midi clock. I haven't compared jitter to Audiobus, but I'd be surprised if it isn't on-par.
Good to know.
I've used MiRack for sending various midi clocks out
and triggers to hardware not receiving
especially for halving and doubling tempos.
I normally use dRambo for this when needed or a combination of dRambo and MiRack.
Again this is good know
I would imagine so
You can even load Loopy Pro as a plugin into AUM, sync it with external clock, and sync AUM with Loopy Pro via Ableton Link. This has the advantage that the entire sync setup can be saved as an AUM session.
ShiftBud and FuncBud have manual trigger mode. You can send a clock pulse with midi notes.
To my list of midi apps (see the first post) that can receive an external clock in standalone mode I can add StepPolyArp (in sequence mode)! I also tried out your suggestions regarding miRack and Drambo (Loopy Pro is (not yet) a midi generator), but such a 'modular' setup, as a (pure) midi source for Reaper) is too complicated (too exaggerated) for me. With the suggestion for good old Audiobus on the other hand I am very happy. The external clock sync was easy to enable and the cooperation with Reaper works flawlessly. Thanks.
I hear you on the complicated etc.
I will most probably put something together in the near future for users to add to their toolkits so to speak.
Good to know.
