    Awesome.

    Congratulations @wim and @yellow_eyez

  • Hah, suckers!
Oh wait, they’re here aren’t they

    Hi you three :-)

  • @wim and @yellow_eyez! Damn, great undercover personae! The last ones I would have expected. Wim, so erudite and Yellow- eyez… so damn nice. I tried being a moderator some years ago. Now I just work on moderating myself.

We’re in good hands! Is there an anonymous tip line available?

Thank you everyone. It’s not an easy job… Your time and effort is much appreciated!

I hope you are all able to land on some consistency in approach. Recently I feel like some members are allowed to continually defy the politics ban while others are treated more harshly.

    Good luck! 🙏

  • @yellow_eyez

    Don’t you ever change 😢

  • Thanks for everything you do, mods.

  • @LinearLineman I have fond memories of your time as mod, things have changed, the
    Zeitgeist.

Damn, this quote should be in a movie or something.

  • Well done guys!

  • Congrats @wim and @yellow_eyez . I don't envy your position one bit, but I'm glad you both stepped up to the plate.

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words. We'll be trying improve and to become more consistent by working together. We all hope you'll kind of forget we're moderators and treat us as you would anyone else. Feel free to call us out if you see us failing to self moderate. 😎

Even with more eyes, it's impossible to keep up with everything. So please flag posts when you see the need. We're unlikely to comment publicly or over DM on moderation issues. The flagging avenue is perfect though. It may feel like your input goes into a black hole, but I guarantee you all feedback is carefully considered.

btw, our involvement began when we volunteered to help fight the great spam outbreak a few months back. It was, and still is the bulk of the job keeping the spammers at bay. It wasn't necessary to say anything then because that's all we were doing. Because that role is evolving we decided we needed to let everyone know.

I remember the Great Spam Outbreak, lol. That was rather odd indeed.

A little "behind the scenes" there ...

The bots figured out how to get past the spam checkers for registering new accounts. We finally had to stop all automatic registration. So one of the constant tasks is to weed through the applications and try to decide if they're for real or not. When you do see spam it means we guessed wrong. Flagging spam helps us to react more quickly.

The Flag-o-matic has flagged this post for excessive references to flagging. ⛳️

  • Thank you for your hard work! 👍

  • the Mod's are doing a great job!! i like it that they will allow a post which is loaded but only nip it in the butt if it goes out of hand.

  • I did wonder who the new mods were & why they were anonymous whilst Doug was out there. Nice to have some awareness of who you are.
Congratulations to you both and many thanks for doing such a great job, it must take up a fair bit of your time.
