Min model/specs for used ipad for Loopy Pro to operate efficiently?

Upgrading from an iPad Air2 - feeling it's having headroom processing issues.

Any recommendation re: min model/specs for used iPad for Loopy Pro to operate most efficiently. Usually run up to 10 loops around 30 seconds or so, guitar input with effects via tonestack or biasfx2.

Thanks in advance!

I have an iPad 9th gen, and it's doing OK with Loopy Pro. I just commit to audio and idle plugins when CPU starts to get too high. Loopy makes it easy to do. I can go all day that way.

That said, I think getting the minimum iPad is the wrong approach. You should get the absolutely highest end model you can afford. Putting the purchase off as long as possible while saving more is also best. Always buy the latest model you can possibly afford, and don't ever skimp on ram is my best advice.

There's more to think about than whether the new iPad will get you buy with Loopy Pro. Apple drops support for new operating system versions for their older devices all the time. You may not care about the new features of these updates. I know I virtually never do. But, app developers also start dropping support for older operating systems over time. Get too far behind and you may miss out on apps you would like to have and upgrades to the ones you do have.

  • Second the iPad 9th gen. Plenty powerful for your needs, esp as you can disconnect cpu intensive apps once loop is recorded. Also is the last one with headphone jack which can be really useful.

  • Great - appreciate the input

  • Fwiw, most people that have had lightning and USB-C based iPads feel strongly that USB-C has been more reliable.

Similarly, people seem to find M1, M2, etc preferable to the earlier chips. iPad Airs with M1 or M2 processors offer a lot of bang for the buck.

  • I run an Air 5th gen (m1) and haven't hit the limit yet. I regularly play a 1.5 hour seamless live techno set running 6 auv3 synths, 2 real instruments, 1 mic, and around 30 fx. Recording live synth loops with a guitarist simultaneously recording live loops in the same session. Zero issues.

I'd definitely recommend an m1 or higher for peace of mind.
