Usb c sd card reader?

edited October 20 in Hardware

Hi, I’m migrating to a new phone which has a micro sd card slot, how easy/ possible would it be to plug in a usb c card reader to my iPad mini, copy over the 50 something gigs of samples I have to an sd card and stick it in my android phone!? Can it be done, and can I use a generic card reader?

Thanks!!!!

The trick is to format your SD card in a format that both devices can recognize. The best option would likely be exFAT. I'm not 100% sure if a generic card reader will work, but it should. Easy to test if you have one around, but if you're buying a new one I'd try to find reviews/etc. stating it works with an iPad.

    If:

    • you have iOS 16+
    • the iPad supports the card reader you intend to use
    • the android and builtin card slot supports exFAT

...then you should be able to do it. Depending on the reader and the legitimacy of the card (which is a problem with micro SD), the speeds may or may not be great.

  • Thanks for the info. I’m on iOS 17 so that should be good. Now to trawl Amazon for a card reader that will work on iPad. Thank you!!!
