As an early 90s kid, I think Korg M1 has the most beautiful sound ever

Comments

  • I absolutely agree. The M1 is very versatile. In the early 90s I played in a Pink Floyd tribute. It did a great job. I have been using the iM1 app which is also outstanding. I like this track. Very laid back and jazzy. Showing again the wide range of the app.

  • I used to work in a music store and we’d A/B the M1 and its follow up, the 01W.. M1 sounded better .

  • Absolutely agree. Now if we just had a D50 on iOS too that'd be my formative years for music all sewn up.

  • Looking forward to Korg (hopefully) making more of their iOS synths AUv3.

They definitely have 90s written all over them.

    iWavestation comes close in character.
Of course you can always replicate the D50 engine e.g. by cloning its synth architecture in Drambo and using the D50's set of PCM samples, but that's more work for you.
    Perfectly doable though.

I bought an 01W with the floppy disk drive. It had some great sounds, too. Back then there was much less to work with. I used a DOS program called Texture. It was written by Roger Powell (keyboard player for Todd Rundgren). Compared to current MIDI editors, it was very cumbersome. Ctrl-this, Alt-that, etc. Everything was done with awkward keyboard sequences. It was like WordStar for music. You may be too young to remember WordStar. This is something I did in the early 90s on the 01W. Eight tracks in Texture. This was before you could burn your own CDs. I took it into a local studio and recorded it to DAT tape in one take.

If I could just have the ‘Soundtrack’ patch, I’d be a very happy man.

    Lucky you!
I did exactly that last winter because I like that sound too and on top, it doesn't use any PCM samples in the original patch, so it was easy to clone in Drambo.

Thank you mate. I don’t own Drambo (yet). Hardware based for last couple of years, but I could be persuaded if I heard an Audio example. Sorry to be cheeky, but any chance of that?

  • That sounds pretty good mate considering the amount of parameters there are on the original synth patch. I might have a crack on the Modwave when I get time. I appreciate you sharing the patch and audio example. I’ll no doubt get Drambo at some stage and give it a spin 👍🏼

  • Good stuff, not too long, great bass, nice sounds and neat little tune !
