They both went under this month.

  • Failing to move all print publication business to an online model means death for these companies. It's just how things are today.

  • aw that stinks. i liked future music

    It moved here.

"Although the print magazine is ceasing publication, the writers and reviewers of Future Music will continue working on MusicRadar, which is also home to Computer Music and Electronic Musician."

  • I bought the first edition of Future Music when it came out. It had a Gary Numan interview if I remember correctly.

They were my frenemies back in the day. Did NAMM and Music Messe together, commissioned some of their freelancers for my own rag, went on factory trips and press junkets together… Glad I got out when I did. The writing was on the wall long ago. The only surprising thing to me is that they lasted this long.

  • Sad about FM but then again I’ve not bought one for many years, just a bit of an “institution”. Even managed to get on the readers’ demo disk a couple of times.

Losing Future Music makes me sad.

We should post the articles we featured in, as a tribute. Here’s mine, May 1999:

  • Computer Music is gone too.

Future Music and Computer Music were sister magazines from the same publisher.

  • Those were the days, my friend. I thought they’d never end…

The Stockhausen piece was my idea. No idea why the mag went bust a few issues later…

  • While definitely a sad day, they've been rehashing the same article ideas and content for almost 20 years now. People need more, and being print only didn't help

    They've actually moved to https://musictech.com/

and have a look here for those who like freebies

    https://musictech.com/tag/freeware/

there's quite a range of plugins and samples.

Fortunately we still have music on computers. :)

I’ve been reading computer music magazine digitally for years but they are citing printing costs as the major factor. Huh?

I had it maybe still do, ermmm, somewhere. :D

Yep. It's this plus a massively reduced number of people buying magazines.

Disclaimer: I work for Future Publishing (but not in magazines - they do a whole swag of things these days. UK people might know they own Go Compare, for example).

  • I had a sub to Computer Music on Pocketmags. £16 for the year wasn't bad as it came with a ton of freebies including G-Force AXXESS which is worth the cost of admission on its own. The latest CM Plug-in Suite is pretty comprehensive to say the least.

Hmmm, I wonder what month mine was

  • That’s a pity. I often enjoyed flicking through Future Music in the newsagent to check out the reviews.
