It is good this one, defo the best I’ve heard him do in a long time…
Not just you! I agree with you 100%. And Gary Oldman’s performance as Jackson Lamb is a brilliant counterpoint to his George Smiley in “Tinker, Tailor … “.
Thanks for posting this. I’ve watched all 4 series avidly (and am currently working my way through the later novels), and this is the first time I’ve heard the song all the way through.
The most recent Rolling Stones album has some fantastic tracks on it. And I'm not one of those "Stones OR Beatles" people... I like both.
I am a longtime Rolling Stones fan, so of course, I have spent the past several decades accepting disappointment.
You are correct; his voice sounds fantastic on this song. When I first heard it, my immediate thought was “Damn, Mick reached deep into his inner Shirley Bassey for this one!”
I love the song, and can easily imagine the Kray brothers grooving to it after a hard day of beatings and theft.
Yeah I'm not too big on the Stones and do like the Beatles a bit more due to some of their musical experimentation, but this is an excellent song by Mick. I like "Sweet Sounds of Heaven" with Lady Gaga. She can sing anything and do so very well!
Slow Horses is so good. Best thing on TV for ages. And yeah, such a great theme too.
"I heard you’re in charge of the rejects.”
“They don’t like being called that.”
“What do you call them?”
“The rejects.”
I’ve read ahead in the series, but binge watched all 4 current seasons in a couple of days. Superb casting all round. Probably the best thing I’ve seen on tv since Breaking Bad. Currently using the 3 months free I got with a phone purchase. Might have to sign up for another month when the next season drops. It’s not only great tv, it is the only thing I actually want to watch on Apple TV.
Snap! I caught the first 3 series on a free 3 months from a large purchase. I’ve paid for this month just to watch series 4. If I can’t find anything else I like, I’ll be unsubscribing until series 5 comes out!
You’re right, superb casting all round. I remember seeing Jonathan Pryce on stage in London’s West End in 1975 in a play called “Comedians”. Stephen Rea was also in it and I’ve followed both their careers with interest ever since. Our school English Literature class was taken to see 3 or 4 West End plays over the years I was there, and I’ve always felt very grateful that my education included such inspirational trips.
I agree with what you say!
So glad you mentioned this. The last great show for me was Breaking Bad. Will be tuning in to this one!
Have you seen Severance? You have to at least try it.
On topic: Yes, this is a great track. Since it's a "Mick Jagger solo track" instead of a "Rolling Stones song" then it's probably the best one I've heard him put out.
Have you seen The Penguin? You don’t even need to be a comic book or Batman fan to appreciate this show. It is dynamite. It has perfected “gritty” and has hair-raising tension for days. Give it a shot. It’s on HBO Max.
It's a strange thing. I never liked the Rolling Stones in general. Almost everyone I know still does. But over the years there are a handful of their songs I do love and crave listening to now and then.
Better Call Saul was Breaking Bad II, and even better IMO.
Great theme song. I’ve had this show on my queue for a while and I’ll take the dive to watch it soon.
Speaking of really amazing theme songs and great TV shows, Succession was the best TV show to end since Better Call Saul (Breaking Bad before) for me, full stop. Hilarious, dark, dramatic, opulent, and frankly just an all around good watch. Amazing writing, better directing, and some of the best acting on TV. Nothing is gonna top Cranston on Breaking Bad (or Paul for his Jesse portrayal) but the main 5 of the show are lights out.
But! Its theme music / score in general gets me h y p e d - I always leave with a ton of ideas after listening and it’s just masterful.
I’ve listened to all of the soundtracks for each season frequently when they dropped but the season 4 OST was on repeat a ton. Nicholas Brittell is just on another level for composers in Hollywood.
Succession OST s04
Also track 6 Lamentoso - "Needy Love Sponges" - is one of those rare perfect 10/10 songs for me.
End ADHD filled tack on. Go watch the show/ listen to the sound track 😅
