Is there an auv3 midi (or synth with midi out)app with a similar play surface to Bebot or thumb jam?

I just picked up Thereminator which is 95% of the way of what I wanted, but does not allow for custom scales and the way it handles portamento/glide is slightly different. GeoShred is also very close but I have noticed I tend to approach playing it differently than I would ThumbJam.

I may be trying to slice hairs here but was just curious if something like this existed that I was unaware of.

  • Ribbons?

  • Full disclosure - I built Ribbons :) But it does have midi out (MPE and normal) as well as custom scales, etc.

  • Ribbons is really good, sounds beautiful too and it was one of my first iOS apps - it was called Ondes at the time... but it could be better with a little more flexible surface. As it is now, changing the range is buried in the settings, too many taps.
Take Shoom as inspiration: good for adjusting range and octave and a great latch system.

  • Animoog, Model 15 and Magellan all have scale bound finger slidable interfaces that can route their midi

    Trooper synth (also by Yonac)

  • Also Magellan 2 by the same developer

  • Bonus points; both are Auv3, and I haven’t tried Magellan 2 in a long time, but Trooper can be used as a midi processor to route its MPE keyboard out to other synths.

  • Xequence AU | keys?
scales and quite a few modulation options (no MPE yet)

also check out WoodTroller : stand-alone and AUv3, MPE, custom scale, pitch bending (per note) , ...

I'm pretty sure you can set up the GS interface to be pretty much like TJ.

  • I believe ThumbJam allows for MIDI out. Maybe just use that since you’re familiar with it.

  • You could also try TC-Data in slidover mode. It has a preset that is 3 octaves of scales... (some mod may be necessary)

@seonnthaproducer is correct. The pads in ThumbJam will send MIDI out. I've used the pads to play other instruments via Audiobus3 and AUM. The MIDI settings are quite advanced too.

  • There are a few apps that have MPE enabled keyboard style layouts such as Animoog Z, and KB-1, which would offer some similar functionality to the keys in ThumbJam.

Have you tried GeoShred (or GeoShred Control) with a customized MIDI setup and layout? The built in presets include layouts that are nice, but I've experimented a bit with customizing them, and while it took me a while to figure out how to choose the right settings and get the spacing and rows the way I wanted, I was quite impressed with the flexibility of it.
