Retrospective Recording
Hi guys, I am relatively new to IOS music production and discovered LP lately and absolutely love it, especially the retrospective recording function for playing bass to prerecorded MPC beats.
I am not sure about the best settings though so Id like to ask what would you recommend.
To be honest I have no clue about these clip settings. The only thing I did was to turn on RR and set custom length to 4 bars. Sometimes it works, sometimes not and there is a big gap before the audio.
Also: is there a way to edit the recorded clip length only to full bars and not little increments. Cause mostly I have to edit the clip recording and it's fiddly to have exactly a 2 bar loop and not 1.4.xxx lenght.
Thanks all. More questions will follow.
Fe. the best NS2 integration... ;-)

If you set retrospective record to custom 4 bars and are not getting 4 bar recordings (assuming the transport has run for at least 4 bars) then something strange is going on. I would need to see a demonstration and all the relevant settings to have an idea.
Do spend some time to read through the descriptions of the various clip settings in clip settings panel and in the manual.

@Basscleff - My workflow with retrospective recording is this, if it's of any help.
This works perfectly for me. It's always waiting for me when needed and I don't have to mess with the detail settings of any loops. Just set the master clock length and play until I get a good take.
Thanks so much Ed and Wim, will reset the clip settings and give it a try!
.... and will read the manual :-)
Great, everything works. I think the main problem was that I didn't start playing/recording at the beginning of the reference loop, instead in the middle somewhere... now I watch the graphic around the BPM and everything is fine.
One question again: is it possible to move the endpoint of the loop BEFORE the startpoint (like in Ableton)?
Can you explain more about what you mean by moving the endpoint before the start point?
It´s hard to explain but I think every Ableton user knows and uses this ;-)
So basically you start recording a 2 bar loop and you started not on the one (1. beat), but instead on the 3rd beat your loop is halfway cut off at the end of bar 2, but the missing information is still there BEFORE the Loop start marker.
In Ableton you can loop from bar 2.3 to 2.4 and then it jumps to 2.1 so you get a full measure.
Otherwise you have to copy and paste the audio to get the same result.
Btw: Thanks so much for your tutorials, have finished the Synth switcher from Youtube this afternoon and works great. Included Scaler and Chordpads also for Progressions.
Is it possible to copy settings from an other template into the actual one? I want to include a kind of Ableton Session View Clip Setting to the Synth Switcher and then I think I am done.... for now ;-)
Loopy does what you are talking about by default. It is called phase preservation. For example, record a first loop counting 1 thru 8 with one number per quarter note and have the count-out set to master and master is 2 bars) . While that is playing, if you start recording loop 2 when loop 1 is at 3 and you record for two bars, the second loop will be adjusted so that where you started recording lines up with “3”

There's also the "two-finger twist" gesture that may come in handy. Using that, you can adjust where the start of the loop occurs. Its somewhat hard to be precise with it, and I'm hoping Loopy will someday have that in the audio clip detail editor, but its useful in some cases.
Thanks all, I will have a look. As I said no dealbreaker, cause the app is amazing!
hey, what's the best way to include Scaler (or other Chord Apps) into this amazing Template?

I have a Launchpad X to play the Chords in realtime from Scaler (with midi binding to Pure Piano). Then i want to switch off Scaler (for CPU reasons) and want to noodle around with the Launchpad only to create Melodies.
For the moment my Midi Channel Launchpad goes to Scaler, and Midichannel Scaler goes to my Piano Instruments. When I switch Scaler off (or mute it) I obviously get no Sound from this Channel. So I have to activate my Insruments on my Launchpad Channel which is a bit cumbersome.
