Problem viewing youtubes on the forum

It seems just recently that I’m getting thwarted from viewing videos on the forum. When I try to watch one, a graphic appears saying I don’t have permission to view it. Sometimes it says “learn more” but when I click that it just disappears blank. I thought it was just forcing me to view it on youtube but when I click the arrow, it opens youtube but doesn’t go the video I want to see. Very frustrating.
And then sometimes I go back to the page and the video appears like it should; other times not; for no reason.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Comments

  • Yes it asks me to log in and what not

    I’m not sure why though

    We’ll look into it …

  • That's odd.
What browser and device are you using?
Are you using a VPN? Any ad blockers?
Have you made any changes to your cookies or privacy settings?
Have you tried rebooting your device and/or your internet router?
Maybe try clearing your browser cache.

  • That's odd. I'm not seeing the same behavior as you two. Yet. 😬
I can't see how that can be anything to do with the forum. Seems more like a Youtube thing.

Yeah I think it’s a YT thing too
Something out of our control really

This is while on my ipad with ios 17.7. no vpn. I'll try your suggestions. Right now I'm on my old computer and it's working fine there.

  • What happens if you click on the thing that takes you to Youtube rather than trying to play in the browser?
Can one of you link to a post with a non-working video so that I'm sure to be testing the same as you are?

  • I’m back on my iPad and I see that I was not logged into the forum before. So it seems that was the problem. Now I can watch videos here.

    @yellow_eyez and @wim thanks!

I don't believe the Forum login makes any difference. Just tried this video in iCabMobile (logged in) and Safari (not logged in). Played fine both times. iPad 6 with iPadOS 17.7.

YouTube seems to have recently add some anti-bot stuff that triggers this. I’ve run into it on other sites too.

You are clearly a bot though.

  • It has been happening to me too. Seemingly at random and regardless of what device or browser.

  • Yeah all YouTube videos are blocked via the site for me, asks me to sign in to prove I’m not a bot. Happens on a few other websites too.

    Ahahahahahah
    I always thought so myself

Same here. It began about a month ago for me. Sometimes i can watch the videos, sometimes not. Signing in to YT does not resolve the problem (for me).

  • Been having this issue too on and off for the past week or two (even before our forum was renamed). I think it's a Youtube issue rather than a forum issue. Happens in PMs too.

I always thought of myself as a Boltzmann brain. (Not being serious)
