Loopy pro midi control questions

edited October 27 in Loopy Pro

Hi guys. I'm thinking of getting loopy pro to make a midi control surface but need to know if it can do a few things first.

I want to be able to make macros that send out several different midi CC (from a single loopy pro knob) to an AUv3 inside a host DAW. All the whole controlling that macro with a midi controller. This is for live performance use, I'll be using it with a Digitakt. Is this possible?
Alternatively if Loopy has macros that can just directly control AuV3 parameters without having to midi learn CC to them that would also do the trick :).

Also is there any significant latency sending midi CC from loopy to an AuV3? I'd like to be able to use the Digitakt's parameter locks to control the macros in loopy pro and latency would be a big issue (unless there is some kind of latency compensation setting)

Also is there a pickup or relative knob mode?

Thanks in advance for the help :)

  • I do know that a single control can send multiple values, if you keep hitting the plus signs when editing.

  • Thanks so much. So I downloaded it realizing there is a demo but now it refuses to load as an AuV3 in Logic 😭

  • Ugh. Logic has so many ongoing issues with handling AU plugins.

Have you launched Loopy Pro standalone and used it?

Loopy’s widgets can send many different midi messages from the same widget. AUv3 cannot directly with other AUv3z. So, as an AU loopy can send midi to the host and then you use the host to control the AUv3 parameters.

AUv3 parameters and midi are different. Not all AUv3 have a way to map midi to their parameters. Many rely on the host to do that.

Loopy Pro a host can directly control AUv3 parameters with its widgets. This is preferable to MIDI Control as direct control is much higher resolution/granularity than MIDI

Also is there any significant latency sending midi CC from loopy to an AuV3?

Not if Loopy is the host. If you are using another host, the question is whether the host has latency in midi cc to auv3 parameter translation. The answer is probably that there isn’t latency.

There is a pickup mode. There is relative mode receiving though currently it is a coarser control than it should be which will be fixed in the upcoming update.

Thanks in advance for the help :)

I have and it works. However I need a host that can record midi cc automation for what I'm trying to do, afaik loopy doesn't record automation like a DAW does?

The current version doesn’t record midi that is coming soon. But you can use a midi recording AUv3 to record and playback midi cc.

Thanks. Happy to hear it's coming soon :)
