Seems like a cool piece of kit but the value proposition isn't there for me, price doesn't match the hardware. I'm sure it reflects the development costs and OS testing. Glad they got it off the ground and hope to see it shine of course.
T.B.H, I feel the same way. And it is a kit, which comes with its own issues if, like me, you lack the required skills. There are quite a few of these computer based musical gadgets which I’d like to get into, - here’s another, the Tulip:
Also DIY, (but only the software - it comes fully assembled and seems a lot more full featured and bang for buck at just $59 (!), including pre built Juno, Dx and 808 emulations
but they all still seem to be at the electronic savant end of the spectrum (you need to be able to program in micropython to get the most out of the Tulip, it seems) and, yeah, I totally get why such niche things costs as they do, but I think it makes Dubby too rich for my blood, even if I could find someone to build it for me. And not a great value proposition against the Tulip.
I've almost bought the Tulip twice, but I hesitated because of the effort involved in programming it. I find the combination with the Alles speakers for multichannel setups really interesting.
I'd never seen the tulip before. That's a value proposition
It's much easier to imagine tossing $60 aside to have a fun coding project next to some unrelated tutorials, than it is $400 and hoping a community does it for me or having the pressure to contribute to get my money's worth.
The Zynthian does have me really interested though, as a solderless piece of coding motivation that isn't a small chunk of change, about $5-600.
It's like Norns and the organelle, I think they could be amazing, but you have to be able to build your synths and whatever in Pure Data and compile them and that's just WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY above my pay grade. I just like to squint and pretend my iPad is something like that
This looks interesting. They even have an addon board that gives you CV output to connect to Eurorack or other analog synths.
Does anybody know if the Tulip is sold somewhere in Europe / UK ?
