Any other arp / sequencers with easy to program note bending/sliding like Pure Acid?

I just bought Pure Acid while it was on sale and it's brilliant... guess I just realized I needed features like this all along... midi sequencing with the ability to do accents, slides, note bends etc. easily. What else is out there that can do this?

  • It's not only about the arp/sequencer as depends heavily how the sound you're sequencing.

You'd need to set up the sound as mono-legato and set the portamento speed to taste, adjust velocity modulation depth for the sound parameters you wish the accent to affect and...

...to get the notes to 'slide' you overlap the end of the previous note with the next one and for accents adjust velocity of the note.

The Rozeta Suite has Rozeta Bassline. It's sort of similar to Pure Acid's sequencer, but there are some important things to know:

    • The slides in Pure Acid are internally generated. They're not actually MIDI.
    • MIDI doesn't have the concept of a slide. It only has pitch bend. That's not how Pure Acid and Bassline work.
    • Bassline's slides work with the Troublemaker TB-303 inspired synth. They won't translate as slides in just any synth. In Troublemaker, a slide happens when the length of one note overlaps another. That's just how it works internally, it's not because of anything special creating a slide using pitch bend.
    • Any mono synth that has "glide" or "portamento" can be made to slide between overlapping notes. So for those Rozeta Bassline, or any other sequencer that can overlap notes can produce slides. Again, it's not pitch bend that's doing this, it's the way the synth handles overlapping notes.
    • Accents are easy. All of the sequencers in the Rozeta Suite make that simple to do.

I can't think of many sequencers that make an easy job of inserting pitch bends. Generally that's something that you do with a pitch wheel or with an MPE controller such as KB-1, GeoShred or Velocity Keyboard, then record that midi in something accurate like MIDI Tape Recorder or Xequence 2.

Drambo is an example of a self-contained recording, editing, and playback solution all in one. It doesn't make sequencing pitch bend slides as straightforward as you're hoping for, but it comes the closest as a single solution though, I think.

I've fallen behind the curve by not buying all the latest sequencers any more, so maybe someone will offer some suggestions of sequencers that do easily generate true slides using pitch bend.

  • Auto bass by Cem Olcay has slides - it’s midi sequencer. It also has accents

But you'd still need to set up the sound you sequence right?

yeah - you still need to have your sound source be able to slide etc.
