Not sure I really need it or will keep it enabled, but it works pretty well so far in my testing. Just having a slightly smarter version of Siri makes it more useful.

    Edit: Siri not smarter yet.

I haven’t noticed much difference TBH. Just curious, can you give an example of something Siri did a better job at? I want to see a difference!

Actually you're right, the more I play with it the more I realize it's still stupid. Sigh....

And really, the notification summaries and all that are nice, but most of my notifications are short anyway. Think I'm just going to disable the AI stuff until they roll more of it out. Right now it seems pretty meh, even when it works well.

Just a note... and this is something that confused me at first... "Apple Intelligence" and Siri are not the same thing. Apple Intelligence does not turn on automatically. Follow these steps if you haven't already.

Apple Intelligence is like an extra layer built on top of macOS/iPadOS/iOS, so it enhances what already exists in these OS's. Frankly, I think Apple's marketing has failed to make this distinction clear.

    A intelligence failliure.

  • The strange thing with Apple Intelligence is why they can’t release it worldwide simultaneously?

I’m on iPadOS 18.2 beta1 on my iPad Pro 12.9” Apple Silicon, but, not a single feature is released here in Europe…?

The strange thing #2 is that on my Macbook Pro 16” Apple Silicon with OS15.2 beta1, the AI-function ”Clean Up” in Photos app has shown up, and, it’s GREAT!

Why can’t we have ”Clean Up” already on our iPads, it’s not a language critical feature?
Apple, an love & hate relationship…

Could be waiting on the lawyers to make sure it doesn't run afoul of EU regulations somewhere. Please don't think I'm bringing politics into this. I'm not. Nor do I imply any value judgement if that is the reason. I just think that is one plausible explanation.

  • I don’t have a new enough iPhone, but I think the ability to have it record and summarise your phone calls to the bank, gas company etc will be a godsend when i eventually do.

I'm confused. I updated my M1 mini to macOS Sequoia 15.1, but the Apple Intelligence & Siri setting says "Join Apple Intelligence waitlist". If I click on that, it's the waitlist for the Beta. I thought it was a live public release now?

  • edited October 29

No idea why they do that, but once I clicked on it I only had to wait maybe 30 minutes before it said Apple Intelligence was ready to use across all my devices.

Thanks. I noticed it on iPad m2 also. Hmmm… I don’t really want to “beta test” apple intelligence to be honest. I’d rather wait for an actual public release. After the 30mins when it said it was ready for you to use, does it still indicate that you’re using a beta and you’re essentially an apple intelligence beta tester?

  • No, I don’t remember seeing that except in the more details fine print. What they did give us so far works fine in my testing, but it’s mostly functionality I really don’t need.

“Clean Up” in Photos on desktop is indeed a huge improvement.

You’re not beta testing it. You’re using a limited set of capabilities initially which are working. I’m going to guess the image generation capabilities are being reined in so they don’t get in trouble with parents with it generating obscene images or something like that.

  • @NeuM & @Tarekith thanks for the clarification

  • Apparently not available for those who choose to use the Australian version of English. What about us cobbers down under maaaaate?

They’re probably testing it on the run in stages. in case something breaks or their servers all fall over or something with the extra load.

Indeed. We're constantly being reminded how much power is required to run "A.I." applications.

  • Damn, just saw the Mac Mini announcement. Here I was seriously thinking a Linux rig for my next set up, but that little beast might just have given me something else to think about with or without the intelligence.

And you can run Windows or Linux on a Mac.

On Intel Macs yes. On Apple Silicon you have to go through a virtualization layer. For audio apps that doesn't always work out well. Parallels desktop with the ARM version of Windows is probably the most efficient.

There is one port of Linux, Asahi, that runs natively on Apple Silicon Macs. Other than that you have to go the emulation route as well.

(There could be some inaccuracies in the above. It's not something I'm well informed about. It should be generally correct though.)

I would miss VirtualBox if I had an Apple Silicon Mac. I like firing up VMs with various Linux distributions to mess around with. Not for music though. That doesn't work well at all. For other things.

UTM (https://mac.getutm.app) looks interesting, though Parallels is surely more polished.

I'm done now. Sorry for the OT ramble.

most of functionalities are disabled in EU because of regulations.. on iOS, in EU it is not available at all, on MacOS just in very limited form (at least based on my knowledge)

Not at all. This is completely related.

Glad that’s it’s available in the UK. Now I need to figure out some good use cases.

What are folks using it for?

  • @dendy I would be careful about too much political rhetoric, forum policy seems to be clamping down.

Actually, when i see videos about how it can do, i would say Sider installed in my Chrome does infinitely more and better work than entire Apple Inteligence :))

Just in case anybody interested https://sider.ai/ integrates all major existing language models into nice easdy to use interface, and for really nice motly fee (half of what OpenAI asks for full access to ChatGPT) you get unlimited access to ALL of them. Excellent tool, using it on daily basic a lot.
