A personal one synth challenge: Kill Chain
A ‘Kill Chain’ describes the process by which an individual marked for death is identified, their location established, their movements monitored, an appropriate weapon selected, the victim engaged, and the aftermath reviewed in preparation for the next victim. The idea originated in the military, but it is adaptable to… other contexts.
Rings has always been my number one Eurorack module - so versatile, so beautiful - so getting RingsFX was a no brainer for me. This piece uses five instances of it, all sequenced from a single Neon pattern, variously delayed and messed with using a combination of stacked BLEASS Slow Machines, Rozeta Scalers, and MIDIgates, and mixed live on a single AUM pass. Maybe it is the season, but with hindsight, I was clearly trying to channel my inner John Carpenter.
Fold, spindle or mutilate as is your wont.

I love the idea of the “One Synth Challenge”… is that a thing or something you just invented?
Umm… well, I don’t claim to have invented it, but I do like the exercise of using just one noisemaker in multiple iterations in a single piece. I do it quite often when I buy a new app, and use it the first time, as it pushes to me to explore it in more detail than I might otherwise, and to get what if anything is unique about the app, what it’s essential character is. Rings FX being so flexible makes that pretty easy, tbh.
Very interesting piece and sounds, especially the low sound, sounds like low string played with a piece of metal. Yeah, the RingsFX is great.
A one synth challenge sounds like a fun idea. I’d participate.
Nice work Irena… I was actually hoping this one would have gone on a bit longer 😊
I’ve done a few single synth tracks and enjoyed them for all the reasons you mentioned.
