There are many honorable mentions and runner ups, but these consistently deliver in the fun, reliability and productivity department.

  • At this point these are ancient. Nonetheless they’re rocks in their own right alongside their developers.
If there were only 3 to choose from:

    Loopy Pro
    Drambo
    Samplr

    Honourable mention: Turnado

  • Apps I'm glad I purchased...

-Nanostudio 2 (when it was originally released December 2018). It quickly became my go-to DAW for more professional work. Even without audio tracks, it's super powerful.

-Korg Gadget. It's definitely the fastest way I've ever created ideas, the second fastest being NS2. The way Gadget has evolved over the years has been amazing. Of course things became a bit precarious when Gadget 2 wasn't updated for a couple years outside of maintenance, until Hell itself froze over, Gadget 3 was released, and more IFX and a couple new IAP gadgets were added, and most astounding - the gadgets were given the AUv3 treatent!

-Rompler apps such as Module Pro, Pure Synth Platinum 2, XinematiX, Beathawk, etc. This is a double edged sword however. They sure take up enough space. 😂 But each one offers a plethora of great sounds that cover everything I need.

-Koala Sampler. It's like an SP404 on my iPhone, and the best keeps getting better. Once the buss mixer was added, I was able to crank out some decent EPs.

-Cubasis 3. For me personally it's the best way for me to record and edit and tune vocals (whether autotune or vocoding). I also used to use CB3 for mastering until...

    -HarmonicDog's Multitrack DAW. For
mastering single tracks, EPs and albums, MTD is far less convoluted and quicker for me to work in personally than Cubasis. I like the more touch-based workflow where holding down the finger on the screen brings up a plethora of editing options. It's very straightforward for mastering. It's also easier to use on iPhone than CB3 for mastering. Speaking of mastering...

-Grand Finale 2. When Logic Pro got AI Mastering, I slept on GF2. Then back in summer this year, I tried GF2 and found it fun to master my own tracks with. Also, unlike LP4i AI Mastering where I can only master one track at a time, I can master whole
EPs and albums using GF2. Although I found that sometimes there's a stray peak here and there from GF2, so I place NoLimits 2 after it setting the input to +1dB and the output to -1dB.

-Doctor Vibe. I instabought this app since I figured "Well, another tool in the Lofi toolkit if I ever return to producing Lofi." I sometimes instabuy an app and leave it to collect virtual dust. The vinyl and decimator are great, but that compressor is bomb af! Ever since I got Doctor Vibe, it has ended up on my various busses in NS2. And when I use a different app like Gadget, I use Doctor Vibe on the mastering chain right before GF2 with vinyl and decimator deactivated.

-Youlean's Loudness Meter. Technically a free download with the graphs being the IAP, this meter is imho the most accurate LuFS meter on iOS. Ymmv ofc.

-AUM. An app I bought upon release years ago, and I slept on it for years before my "Summer of Ambient 2022". That era actually started with a couple of live Ambient pieces in Koala, and then I took to AUM to make live Ambient in. The whole ordeal was triggered by the release of the OP-1 Field. Those were fun pieces to make, but over two years later became rather boring for me to listen to (except for "I Shall Guide Thee"). 😂

-AudioShare. During the dark ages of iOS before Files was introduced, AudioShare was my main hub for gathering my audio files all in one place. It still is where I export my audio to as that's what I'm used to by now. 😂 It's also handy for quick audio format conversions.

This is just off the top of my head of course. I'm pretty happy with all my app purchases from the past, even if some of them disappeared from the Appstore. I probably spent four figures since 2011, with at least half of that being invested in the "Korg iOS Infrastructure". 😂 Meaning Gadget, its IAPs, the external apps compatible with Gadget, and their IAPs (which includes Module and all its IAPs).

In fact, there was only one app I regretted purchasing for which I successfully got a refund. Otherwise it's all been good.

EDIT: oh, and MiRack – i only use it for SH-101 emulation, but that's utterly important for me

I made a couple of Interzone/SH-101 inspired Drambo patches if you’re interested. I should revisit them in light of recent updates and with some more experience, but they seem to work reasonably well.

Gosh, I could list a bunch, but here’s the ones I like and use the most:

    AUM
    AudioShare
    MultiTrackRecorder
    iM1 and iWAVESTATION
    BeatHawk
    TB Plug-ins
    Red Rock Plug-ins
    Pianoteq
    Midi Tape Recorder (free)

  • Microwave 1 & Frostbite 2
    Work really good together 😎

  • I’ve got sqsl RSVP that I really like a lot. Yes, I know there’s no inter-connectivity, but you can record and export your recording in-app.

I’m toying with getting his midi controller called sqsl Astral. I haven’t found much on it but some very short developer vids. In concept it’s intriguing to me, but the demo vids are not so inspiring.

He as anyone got sqsl Astral and like it?

oh, i remember these, and certainly have them in my patch library.

  • Cubasis
    One Shot
    AudioLayer
    Overloud THU

  • If I had to choose a single app, that would be Drambo for sure. It's almost hardware.

Cubasis is good for recording and mixing hardware.

MDES and No Limits 2 are my mixing staples.
