miRack Interaction Question

I've been messing around with the "Random Sampler" module in miRack, which is basically Mutable Instruments Marbles. A few of the controls seem to be based around holding a button and then turning a knob. But as far as I can tell, miRack only supports single-touch and you can't actually access these settings?

Am I missing something here?

Seeing as the miRack forums haven't had a post this year, I thought I'd ask here instead, just in case someone knows.

  • Some functions like that in miRack work with the Shift button engaged. Others are accessed from the popup menu on the module. Others like the ones in Random Sampler unfortunately just aren’t implemented.

You might want to email the developer or use the contact form.

Thanks for the reply wim! That's definitely a bummer about the lack of functionality, though even what is there is still a lot. How did you find out? Reading the source code?

I can't test now but some settings might be in the module's context menu, rather than holding multiple buttons to change stuff.

Thanks! I did look and there are a few things in the context menu but not most of the functionality.

That's just based on questions I asked @mifki, the developer, in the past. I'm not 100% sure those were the exact parameters I asked about, but that was the case for missing multiple press operations in in whichever modules that I had asked about at the time. You might want to write @mifki with the contact form on the website.

There are really only a few functions missing in any of the modules. The Audible Instruments modules are the most prone to that because they have so many combo operations.

I’ve done the same as you @wim regarding Random Sampler, and if I remember correctly I found the only function missing is programming a custom scale to sample from, it required a long press in the Marbles manual and was missing from the context menu. I think the rest of the functionality was available.

I got around it by using a quantizer after it (Lazy Susan is probably the best in miRack)
Having tried that I stopped using Random Sampler and went back to Stellare’s Turing Machine with a combination of offsets and scales which got the job done without context menus.

  • I used the Marbles clone in MiRack with my hardware synths for a bit to keep from lusting after a Moog Labyrinth. My advice is to use a midi controller with MiRack to get the most out it.

Wireless midi controllers are getting pretty cheap these days. I've owned Korg Nanokey Studio for years, but also bought this one on sale this spring for only $36.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BTPPYY8J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It works pretty good, can actually program MIDI CC on the front panel instead of using a desktop app and also has a little 1-track midi looper built-in.
