Are there any AUv3 hosting apps that can act as an Auv3 as well?

Not sure what I can add to the thread title? Looking for a hosting app that itself can be loaded as an AUv3 in another audio app.

Or is it a contradiction in usage?

An AUv3 cannot load other AUv3. Drambo and Loopy Pro and BAM are all standalone hosts and can run as AUv3. But when they run as AUv3 they can not load other AUv3

thanks -had a hunch that was the case. Nice to get it confirmed though!

Likely there's a specific effect your looking to "nest" inside another host, in your main DAW, in which case you're out of luck. BUT the modular power of Drambo is so vast that you can build most things in Drambo itself and then run it as an auv3.

It can be the largest multieffect plugin you can imagine, along with a massive sequencer, along with multiple varied synths and more all in a single auv3 - that you could load as many instances of as you want inside your main host. (Until your iPad goes up in flames that is)

In my opinion it's the closest setup you can get to hosting plugins within plugins.

You can do this with the Maschine VST on desktop. Load it as a VST and host VSTs in it, super cool!

When running as an AUv3, Nodes is midi only. It can't host anything.

Hi. I believe the question is whether an app can be loaded as AUv3 in a host AND simultaneously load other AUv3 into itself. The answer is always that it is not possible. There are quite a few apps that can either be an AUv3 host OR act as an AUv3 in another host. But Beatmaker 3 is just an AUv3 host.

  • Thanks Dave.

What I mean is, it’s entirely possible to load Beatmaker 3 up with Auv3’s and then load it as an Auv3 itself in AUM..

That's kind of close in practice, but not really the same thing.

When loaded in AUM, BM3 isn't an AUv3. It's a standalone app using Inter-App Audio to send its sound through AUM. In some ways that's similar, but is a different technology and subject to limitations. Only one instance of BM3 can be used and there's no "state saving" for instance.

Also, only the master stereo output is available to AUM, not separate channels. On the other hand, if you flip things around so that BM3 is the "host" you can have up to 8 separate AUM channels going into BM3. So there is that.

    Good suggestion though.
