Klaatu Barada Nikto
When I was about 10 years old, I saw The Day The Earth Stood Still. It was probably the first sci-fi movie I ever saw. I was glued to the TV. All of my buddies saw it, too. We would get together after dinner and play until dark. We invented a game we called Gort. Of course, everyone wanted to be Gort, but Klaatu was pretty cool, too. He had special “powers”. What 10 year old boy doesn’t want “powers”? We would play until after dark, until the moms called us to come home.
I often wondered what would have happened if Helen Benson had panicked and forgotten those three words, or said them incorrectly. So… I wrote a “song” about it.

I always thought it was. “Varada”, Paul. I hear the similarities. I like yours better.
Hey - I was expecting to hear that new theramin in here somewhere. I also loved this as a kid. The sound effect of Gort's eye-ray beam always impressed me. Kudos to the sound designer.
This is cool. What were your sound sources for this? Especially the string-like sound in the end. Thank you!
I did, too. I got the correct spelling when I looked it up. I hope you get a chance to play them in unison. Bavarian Lodge for lunch today. Always plenty of leftovers for lunch tomorrow. My favorite is the Hunters Schnitzel. Yumm!
I wish I had thought of that! Such a classic sound for old sci-fi. I found a few sites where you can stream it. Unfortunately, they have commercials every 10 minutes. Oh well, I guess somebody has to pay for it. Thanks for listening.
To be honest, I was just throwing things together randomly. I wasn’t paying much attention. I think this had about 50 tracks of bits and pieces. I finally narrowed it down to about 30. If I recall, that string sound was most likely Mini Orchestra with lots of effects. I really like Other Desert Cities. I have been liking that one lately. Have a good one!
Cool! Loved this movie. Perhaps a re-mix with @LinearLineman's Horror Movie.
The first minute leading up to the guitar is sound design gold, as well as the arrangements of it all. I love These sort of noises! I’d ask but seems you don’t remember.
That’s up to Mike. I’m sure he has other fish to fry at the moment. Speaking of fish, we had some delicious deep fried Cod last night with Honey Bunny’s homemade Tartar sauce. I enabled downloads if either of you feel so inclined. Have a beautiful weekend!
Thank you so much. I love the term “sound design”. I have been getting into this genre lately. I have come to terms with the fact that I will never have a band to play my “music”, so I just have fun with my iPad. As I mentioned above, I enabled downloads for this. If you would like to play around with a remix, I would dig that. Have a lovely weekend!
Thank you! I had a great weekend risking life and limb rigging Christmas lights to the gutters. Maybe i was late and you disabled downloads? I have the app and don’t see a DL option. I only see the DL button on this page, but it does nothing.
Sounds like fun! We live in a condo now, so lights and leaves are a thing of the past. On the SoundCloud page, click the ellipsis (…) There is a Download File option. Looking forward to hearing what you come up with!
