Logic Pro on iPad mini? It works quite well!

  • An excellent video. For me personally, I can use Logic's stem separation on my Mini 7. Sure it may go slower than on one of the latest iPad Pros, but it gets the job done.

And now that I have twice the storage in the Mini 7 than I did the Mini 6, I can fit full Logic on there, not just Logic minus its content for mastering and stem separation. All this to say - after I finish my current album in Gadget, I jolly well may attempt to create an EP in Logic. We shall see. 🤷‍♂️

  • @jwmmakerofmusic : It may “go slower “ but I’d be more apt to use the mini on the bus or something vs my 12.9. People like you and Patrick seem to love this thing , in fact it seems to be most people’s favorite iPad . DEF getting the 512 if I order one .

I believe you should! 512gb affords me plenty of space to store Logic and its IAPs, my romplers and their IAPs, my multitude of samples, the Korg Ecosystem, and I still have more than 256gb left worth of wiggle room. 😄

The reason I stuck to a 1TB iPhone for producing music for an entire year was due to needing the storage space for all my sounds. I love having a studio in my pocket, but let's face it. Koala is about the best app on the iPhone due to its UI fitting the screen perfectly. Everything else is f--king tiny! 😂

I also don't fancy lugging around a huge iPad unless it's to one of my gigs as a sheet music reader. My iPad Pro has become relegated to that task. So, the iPad Mini is my preferred form factor of choice. I also love that slate purple finish. 🥰

(Come to think of it, my first iPad Mini was a gen 5. Last year I got the gen 6, and now the gen 7.)

One thing that shocked me (that I forgot about at first) is the Pencil Pro has a hover cursor in ProCreate! No joke, what normally takes me an hour to complete took me no more than 40
minutes, because I can see how the cursor will land before the Pencil Pro touches the screen! 😂 Say what!?

Those are my reasons I love my new Mini 7 at any rate.

  • Traded my M1 Pro 11 for the iPad mini 7 and I have no regrets. I find this to be the perfect size iPad and it handles all of the same tasks I did on my iPad Pro.

  • Is the volume/speakers any better than the 6?

To my knowledge it’s the same

  • @jwmmakerofmusic : Are you using desk/laptop these days as well? If so, how often vs iPad mini?

Oh my, I haven't used a laptop in years save for the time late last year/early this year I had one to manage files on an OP-1 Field with. That was a fun time, until I couldn't afford payments on my OP-1 Field any longer and had to sell it to make ends meet.

When I had the laptop, I downloaded FL Studio Main and tried to produce something in it. Needless to say, after remembering why I hated producing on a laptop, I just went back to producing on my iPhone. 🤣 And why do I hate producing on a laptop you may ask?

    1. Without antivirus software, I'm wide open. Maybe not so much on a Mac, but definitely on a Windows.

    2. Windows is pants in general. I'm sure a Mac is easier, but iOS is super flexible (especially once Apple introduced the Files app).

    3. "Performance anxiety". Too many bad memories associated with producing on Windows, especially since a lot of my older productions sounded rather shite.

    4. Plugins for Windows and Mac are bloody expensive compared to the relatively cheaper prices I pay on iOS. (Even if some more recent plugins aren't as cheap as the older ones are, they are still at a discount on the Appstore.)

    5. Lugging a laptop is a bulky pain. It's also why I only take my iPad Pro with me as a sheet music reader when I go to play piano gigs. It's why the Mini form factor is nicer for me.

BUT, these are only my personal subjective views, not objective facts. Your mileage will vary.

Back to the question - I do sometimes come up with an idea on my iPhone if I leave my Mini 7 behind, and then I can airdrop it to my Mini 7 to finish up. Although, unless I'm going to a bad part of the city, there's really no reason I can't think to tote my Mini 7 with me.

  • @jwmmakerofmusic :Thanks for the detailed response which pretty much said “screw lap/desktop production..It’s ok, I feel the same way, lol
