Is this forum's search working correctly?

I can't seem to find any posts or topics about Audiothing's Frostbite 2 at all, irrespective of my search terms.

Comments

  • Yes. It is working. It seems to be a strange anomaly with frostbite 2 for some reason.

Here is a thread to start you off. I’ll try to find another( if there are others )

  • Thanks, appreciate it.

Other apps also didn't seem to be coming back in a search -- the pending Transit update, for example -- but I didn't test those other searches too rigorously so I could be wrong...

Seems like Google is used for searches here instead of Vanilla's own search function, with all pros and cons we know about Google searches.
I'm sure @Michael had good reasons to choose this route.

  • It’s iffy, at best, in my experience.

  • Google search is generally not good at just doing a good old-fashioned Q&A transaction.

  • Be sure to tap the Web option in Google's top bar. Otherwise it tries to feed you imagined AI stuff.

  • Search is broken.

I used to be able to type in "Lockdown" in the search box in the top right hand of the page and it would find the thread "Listen to Wikipedia as ambient music & other lockdown diversions" on the LPF.

    Not any more.

It looks like it is searching the whole net and not just the LPF.

Not, it's "working". See screenshot, and note the Web at the top. But maybe it's not up to date, so only finds older threads/posts. @Michael ?

It probably has to do with the domain change. Years and years of web crawler visits to the old forum domain and now all those links are invalid. Michael registered a domain transfer with google, but that’s probably of limited effectiveness.

My guess is things will improve with time. Nothing has changed with the search engine itself, but the data most likely has a lot of catching up to do.

Vanilla’s search system has pros? If so I haven’t seen them. I don’t even bother on the Drambo forum. Maybe there are some tricks I don’t know about though.

  • As far as I know, the search here is just big standard Google search with “site:forum.loopypro.com” appended.

Maybe it would be worth trying google with “site:forum.audiob.us” appended. (Without the quotes) maybe that would dredge something up from the silt still laying around all the data caches waiting to be refreshed out there.

I definitely get better matches over there, while the Google search here so often gave me too many unrelated posts which often didn't even contain all search strings. Some of my actual search strings seemed to be ignored - and it's been like this for long before the domain name change. Even a Duckduckgo search on audiob.us and forum.loopypro gave me much more relevant results.
Simple example from forum.beepstreet (and that's how I would expect it to work):

Granted, the beepstreet forum has a number of other issues but I'm quite happy with the search function at least.

Huh. I have no other complaints about the Drambo forum but the search. It’s been hopeless when I’ve tried. Apparently I just don’t know how to use it. What is the “+” before the second term? Is that an “and”?

Yes. I didn't even read any documentation but that's how google used to work in the better days 😉

  • Cool @rs2000 thanks. The implied “or” with multiple terms has been what has made it useless for me in the past.
