I feel sorry for the poor bastard who got beaten to death with that compressor. 😂 Seriously, what is up with the UI?
+1 I guess they think it looks 'cool' or something?!
I don't think it looks cool at all mate. 😂 I mean, adding some skeuomorphism is fine in small doses, but holy shit man. That UI looks like the Mortal Kombat version of an L2 compressor. "Gentle compression", so why doesn't it look gentle?
Right, I sent them a polite email via their contact form, and we'll see what they say as to why they designed the UI as such. 🤣 I have nothing better to do while taking a break from learning Logic.
Hi, the story with the GUI is that L2 and AK476 were released in desktop versions for Halloween, and they were also available as freebies in Kohle Audio Kult, which is why the GUI looks so ‘cool.’ Don’t worry, we also have a clean version We’ll replace it at the end of November. For now, unfortunately, you’ll have to look at our gory version.
Ah ha ha! Okay, fair play then. Cheers and thank you for letting us know. 😂 Right, I will purchase it.
Cool - this is the one I wanted. When is Ak 476 comming?
Was that used in the Diddy studio ?
Bwahaha! 🤣 That was the laugh I needed today.
.
I tell you what … after reading this and a few of the other release posts recently, I would say that this is a tough crowd to please. I’d be feeling a little nervous to release anything here if I was a developer. The general attitude appears to be somewhat cynical towards everyone. Could be just me, but that’s how it’s coming across.
It's only the UI that was offputting to me. I purchased it after the developer spoke up and said they'd change the UI later this month. It works wonderfully.
I have MagicDeathEyeStereo and Doctor Vibe, but this L2 Aura is a wonderful glue compressor in its own right. So I'm not deriding it for its functionality, and I'm shocked a plugin of this caliber is less than a tenner (at least as of right now).
The iOS plugin market is maturing quickly, and there are high quality plugins of every type on the app store. Certain categories, like compressors and reverbs, are VERY well represented. So honestly, if you want to bring, for example, a new compressor to the iOS market, you best bring your ”A” game and expect a somewhat skeptical reception. I think this community gives a fair shake to developers, especially those, like @AuroraDSP, who are brave enough to come here and engage.
This looks like an interesting effect, but I too am a little turned off by the gory UI, and honestly it reflects an aesthetic tendency that’s kept me away from some of Aurora’s other products. Not that they aren’t free to make their own UI choices. I’m sure other people feel differently.
So it’s based on the LA-2A Leveling Amplifier https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LA-2A_Leveling_Amplifier
Thank you for your honest and detailed feedback—it’s always valuable to hear how our work resonates (or doesn’t) with the community. At Aurora DSP, our origins aren’t rooted in creating software to simply "do business." We’re musicians, producers, and engineers first, and Aurora was born from our desire to bring our creative ideas to life through plugins.
We understand that our aesthetic choices, including the sometimes unconventional UIs, can be polarizing. While some users love the bold designs, others find them less appealing—and that’s okay. For now, we’ve been focused on staying true to our artistic vision. That said, we know that as we grow, we’ll need to evolve and appeal to a broader audience, both creatively and practically.
I can personally promise that we’ll continue listening to the community and reflecting on our approach. Starting next year, we’ll make an effort to reduce controversial or divisive elements, ensuring that our tools feel accessible and inviting to all musicians.
Your input helps us improve, and we’re grateful for the chance to engage directly with this passionate and discerning community.
Haha, no worries—we’re from Poland, so we’ve developed a bear-thick skin over the years! Feedback, even the tough kind, rolls off us like water off a duck’s back. We genuinely appreciate the honesty and passion in this community—it keeps us sharp and motivated to keep improving.
Haven’t decided to get it yet - it’s likely - but for me at least, the “gory UI” is an inducement.
Nice! My mother's side of the family is from Poland. They immigrated to the US back in the early 1900s. Beautiful country.
Thanks for the reply, and you keep doing you! I love the sound of Mammoth and Gorilla (though I’d really love to see the preset browser drop down fixed in AUv3 hosted Gorilla!) Cheers!
Hopefully it would be possible to choose the appearance, I really appreciate this edgy look.
Finally a full featured 2A on iOS and it sounds great!! With great pricing as well. A separate AUv3 LA-2A outside of Mixbox was definitely on my list of tools iOS needed. Definitely looking forward to their other mix offerings.
Here’s a corrected version of your sentence:
I don’t really care about the look as long as it sounds good and the UX is easy to use. Grunge aesthetics are fine for me, though I prefer a cleaner, more straightforward look.
it's so great being corrected by people who know better
v1.0.2 is live
That's better.
