Can't turn on quantization in Cubasis

I can't turn on quantization in Cubasis. It remains dim. I have my settings for beats, not seconds, and I have set the quantization to 1/16 and the grid 1/8. Still, the actual quantization button stays dim. And, when I record, I can go all over the rhythmic map; quantization is clearly not working.

Any ideas?

I don't think it works like that. I can't explain the greyed out thing. But when you record MIDI notes they land where you play. Then you can set a quantise value and press the Q button. This will then adjust the start of each note to the quantise value. I don't think it applies the quantise value as you record.

The only thing I can add on the greyed out problem is the Q only lights up when you have a MIDI part selected or the MIDI editor open.
