Splitter for lightning on old iPad
In order to get the signal from my audio interface into my ancient iPad I obviously need to use the lightning port but the battery doesn't last long so I also need to power the iPad from the mains. So I've ordered a 'splitter' to give me two inputs. My question is, will this have an effect on the signal from the interface (M-Audio M-Track Duo)? Any recommendations for a decent quality splitter? The one I've ordered was just a cheap one from Amazon.

Not sure what you mean with a splitter but these guys have quality ones that are half the price of Apples own Camera Kit Adapters.
I'm sorry, they seem to not be doing Lightning ones, only USB-C. Damn, I wanted one myself. I bought one for my M1 to replace the Apple ditto which had started to glitch. Very happy with it after some months of usage.
Thanks for the tip but it doesn't look like they do them. This is the sort of thing I mean...
I’ve tried a bunch. It’s hit or miss honestly. I would recommend trying a bunch of different combos when it arrives.
IE; changing the charging wire you initially try, the charging bricks with different voltages, if it doesn’t work with a lighting - usb c try usb a, etc.
No rhyme but got me to find a way to use an audio interface, midi keyboard, mic, with the smallest amount of noise after trial and error.
Also I don’t know if your iPad has an AUX or if you plan to use it with the splitter but at last on my Air 3 it produces too much noise when charging and connected so I did the same trail and error and no amount of headphone wires solved this. Figure I’d save you the time trying to test this part out at least.
Best of luck!
Does your interface not have a USB cable? Mine came with both a lightning and a USB cable. Most from that era do. If so, get the Apple USB adapter (often called a CCK). While some 3rd party ones work they are very hit-or-miss.
Thanks for the advice but I'm not sure this would solve my problem (unless I'm missing something). My iPad still has only one lightning input and I would still need the signal from the audio interface and mains power as well.
Many thanks for that - it sounds as though it's not going to be straightforward but I'll try the different configurations as you suggest. My iPad just has the lightning and a headphone socket.
The usb adapter has a usb input for data and lightning input for charging. It is what most of us with lightning devices use to charge while using an interface and midi devices.
Yes, Camera Connection kit "Lightning to USB 3" is the answer.

Thanks a million for all your responses - sorted!
