Just started Loopy Pro trial…could do with a bit of help.

Following on from the thread where i asked about the relative merits of Loopy Pro vs Enso Looper, i have just installed and started the Loopy pro trial period. Many thanks to you @Michael for having the trial period renew every year to allow for users like myself to revisit and assess it again.

I’ve gone through the in app tutorials, checked as many menus as possible and looked through the manual but i can’t find a way to copy/duplicate the audio from one loop to another? I gather you can drag one loop into another to mix/combine them as in Koala but, unlike Koala, dragging a loop into an empty one just moves the audio, leaving the original empty. How do i copy/paste the audio from one loop to another?

Secondly, the manual shows the Clip Slicer menu as having a Customise button but i can’t see/access it? Anyone care to enlighten me? Many thanks.

Dragging to copy uses two-fingers. You can put down the second finger at any time during the drag. You can also copy/paste clip audio by flicking up on the clip and using the import or export share sheet.

I think Clip Slicer screenshot with a Customize button must be from a pre-release version and button was removed.

  • The customised clip slicer is now the “button grid”. The clip slicer is basically a specialised version.

  • Ah, knew drag to copy/copy/paste must be there somewhere - many thanks @espiegel123. As it happens, I’ve just been looking at some of your Loopy Pro setups on Patch Storage; I’ll definitely be trying some of them out!

Got it, many thanks @Michael. Cheers.

  • @Michael, is it possible to set up one shots/loop clips to record internal audio?

I assume it must be because the LP707 sample project allows you to record the drum one shots into the Drums loop but i can’t find the settings which tell the Drums loop to record the internal audio from the one shot drum samples?

By the way, the Samplewiz 2 functionality in that LP707 example doesn’t seem to be working? There’s a high chance that its user error but it might be worth checking - neither the Record function or the presets selector dial work for me.

  • @Robin2, one shots work the same way that loops do. They'll record whatever audio you route to them. Could you perhaps post a screenshot showing your mixer setup and indicate what internal sound you're trying to record, and to which one shot?

To record something in loopy, make a color or colors a destination on the audio source's mixer channel. You can then record to a clip f that color. You can also resample from color to color like this.

I was just playing around trying to figure what’s possible so no particular setup. Let’s take the sample project I mentioned, LP 707 as the example.

I’ve looked through the settings for the drum sample one shots and the settings for the Drums loop to which they record, but i can’t see anything related to routing the audio? Where and how do you set up the audio routing?

(As i write this, it looks like @espiegel123 has answered that last question).

So, that’s the only way to do it - via routing colours/tracks? It’s not possible to tell a loop or one shot to record all internal audio from any source in the way that the Session Recording can?

Audio inputs default to sending to all colors, so in general all audio playing should record to the clip unless you narrow the audio routing down to specific colors.

  • Oh, i see now, thanks @wim (and thanks @espiegel123).

You’ll probably laugh but I’ve discovered what i was missing…i didn’t have the extended mixer view open and therefore wasn’t seeing the routing options. I’m slowly finding my way around! Cheers.

We all had our heads spinning in our first 7 days with Loopy Pro. You're quickly making a lot of progress. 👍🏼

  • Oh yeah, the next version is gonna have the mixer in the extended mode by default too, so that that’s a bit more obvious! You’re not the 1st to be tripped up by that.

Yes, i did go through the included tutorial initially so i was aware of the extended mode being there…it’s just that there’s a lot to remember and i’d forgotten by the time i was trying to do something specific.

By the way, i mentioned the integration of Samplewiz 2 into one of the sample projects not working but the integration of Koala into another one - Shamanic’s Live Template - doesn’t seem to work either? Again, highly likely it’s user error on my part (in which case my apologies), but you might want to check when you get the chance just in case: these sample projects are invaluable for showing off the possibilities of Loopy Pro and for delving into their settings to see how they’re set up, so it’s really important that they work with those AU plugins flawlessly otherwise they’re just going to cause confusion.

    Thanks @Michael.

  • Okay…next point of newbie confusion. In playing around with exporting loops via Export > Audio Clips and via the individual clip’s share > Save to Media functions, I’m only getting dry exports, not including the effects i might have placed on the colour track?

How do you render a loop with all processing intact?

Either resample to new loops and export or export from the sequencer.

Ah, okay, thanks yet again @espiegel123!

  • I can’t find a way to do this but I’m wondering whether it’s possible to set up one shots to be triggered to play in a quantised way, on and off as you slide your finger over the boundary of the one shot square on the interface - in the way that some of the modules work in Beatsurfing?

Is that possible in Loopy Pro?

Clip quantization is handled with the play/stop quantization settings. There needs to be a tempo set and the clock needs to be running for quantization to work.

Sliding a finger in and out of a clip or widget boundaries doesn’t correspond to any of the gestures loopy has defined.

Thanks @espiegel123. I didn’t think i could see anything which would do it - good to have it confirmed. Cheers.

KB-1's drum layout can be used to trigger midi when sliding over its pads, if that's any help.
