How do I set quantisation of triplets in GB?

Okay, this is a pretty stupid beginner's question I admit, but I'm absolutely stumped. When I searched the forum (maybe the search function is still updating from the ABF to LPF switchover), Google and Youtube, all I could find are videos on how to quantise triplets after live recording. I also dug into Track Settings, and the same issue. It only quantises after the fact.

My question is, how do I change the quantisation grid to triplets when programming in notes without having to bother with recording a live performance? Many thanks in advance. And if there's an existing thread I failed to see, please do point me to it.

  • As far as I recall you can't directly set the piano-roll grid-size in GarageBand but the 'Smart Snap' snaps to both straights and triplets when moving the notes and more grid-lines pop up the more you zoom in.

Wait, the Smart Snap can be set to triplets? I didn't know that. Seems to only divide up to 1/64th or 1/128th notes afaik. :)

You're right! My memory failed me this time...
...I'm just 'too used' to LogicPro for iPad :sunglasses:

Oh, Logic Pro is my main DAW these days, lol. But GB is where 90% of my ideas are born before porting to Logic.

Bring on the 'Arranger Track' from Mac Logic over to the iPad and we'd have something similar to GarageBands 'Sections' in LogicPro for iPad.

Logic's 'New Track' dialogue could have a 'GarageBand Mode' for picking instruments and the play surfaces for many of the instruments in GarageBand would also be pretty nice to have in LogicPro for iPad.

The only 'DAW' I've got installed on my ancient iPhone 8 is GarageBand...

I swear, Garageband is really great. :) It's the perfect way for me to start an idea, port it into Logic Pro, and flesh out an idea more. The trick is getting the triplets as I want to remix Bach's "Minuet in G". This one...

...although instead of 3/4 time, I'd be in 12/8 time as the beat will fall in a 4-on-the-floor pattern. Wait, I just remembered GB has time signatures. Maybe that's the key to getting the triplets. I will investigate.
