Calling all launchpad lovers

edited November 23 in Hardware

Thinking about asking Mrs. Claus for a Launchpad Pro for Xmas. Fingers crossed I'm not on the naughty list this year! 🧑‍🎄

Who out there uses a launchpad on iOS? Has your experience been positive?

Is there a list of apps with native support?

I'll be using both iOS and Ableton so I'm excited to add a new toy to my mix. 😁 As a fan of Ableton, I love the Novation integration, so I currently have a couple Novation midi controllers: SL mkiii 49 which is the main brain of my studio, and I also recently picked up a Launchkey 37 mini MK4 (which also rules) for iOS, but I need more pads in my life. I love live looping and I'm getting decent at finger drumming too, plus looking forward to all the extra buttons, controls, bells, & whistles.

  • No worries, I got you covered.
Here’s my favorite list of apps. Loopy Pro can be added to the list but it wasn’t out at the time that the video was made.

  • A Launchpad mini MK 3 has become an integral part of my setup this year. I do love it. Not only is it the ideal controller for a mobile setup, there are some really good apps with built in Launchpad support:
For sequencing I can recommend Prism MIDI sequencer or for the lovers of Mozaic scripts the scripts from Carlos77
Remixlive has a very deep Launchpad integration as well.
Last but not least you can always create your own user configurations. I like the way Novation made a web based configuration system that runs on any web MIDI enabled platform. This sadly excludes iOS, but Apple is to blame, not Novation.

This is what I had used to configure my LPX, without the need to use a computer. Dunno if it still works with the newer ios’s. I noticed it’s been two years since updated.

Thanks for chiming in everyone and that video was great as well.

I'm also thinking about picking up a Launch Control XL to pair with the Launchpad, but the only problem is I've run out of room in my studio. I guess this is a good problem to have :D

The launchpad X is my go-to device. With it's 8 custom banks - I have different setup for apps and my own chord banks. As you're getting the Pro, there are chords baked in.

I have the mini but don't use it as much as it isn't velocity sensitive. But it's great when I'm traveling or want to use just samples. I'm thinking of setting it up just to trigger stuff (64 buttons is a lot)

The other great thing is you can program buttons to Midi CC as well as for normal keyboard shortcuts. So if your app of choice uses standard keyboard shortcuts - you can add them to a pad. You do need a computer to set it all up in components (as their web browser version doesn't work from an iPad)

Well worth the money (both of them).
