Häxsabbat - a dark ambient drone thing done in koala.

  • Wow!
I would have expected this more from the likes of Borderlands Granular.

Great example of using what we have, in unvonventional ways :)

  • Always impressed by what can be achieved within Koala alone. This is great, and the vid accompanying it really works with the minimalism of the shifting drone. You are inspiring me to try something different away from my AUM comfort blanket!

So: what were the sources, and how did you work with it in Koala? Were you live manipulating things? I’m eager to learn…

Also: great title. Witches Sabbath would be good, but somehow Häxsabbat sounds so much better. Instantly evocative of ancient old Norse runes and rites, I guess. :)

Thank you so much, there was a hell of a lot of extreme time stretching going on, to emulate granular!!

Grazie @Svetlovska! As a family we've been a bit scandanavian the last couple of years, somehow, my tally of those countries visited went from zero to three in two years, so it seemed fitting! Sources were: A bit of the old Atoms by Baby Audio... That's a synth that can sound pretty spooky, The rest is just samples found in various places, all looped asynchronously and started by me at various points. There was a lot of built in reverb and tape delay too, which I did fiddle around with live, yes :))

  • What did you use to create the video?

It’s a video by Bill and Louise Etra, I just used Riveo to slow it down.
