Songwriting Tools

I've only really dabbled in Logic for mixing stuff and tuning with Melodyne but lately I bought a rather expensive vocal plugin and wanted to play around with it. I used the session players to make a quick loop and my god has this stuff gotten good!

This has led me to realize Logic may have the best songwriting tools for vocalists. Build a track base in seconds with the players, import a loop and adjust the entire vibe of the song with the groove track, AI mastering, and using Scaler 2 and the chord track. you could finish a short demo album in a day if you wanted to. It's nuts.

Still not a huge fan of the workflow but I think I'm gonna spend the next month only making music in Logic Pro to brute force the muscle memory.

Are there any DAWs with songwriting tools like these I've missed?

Are you talking about desktop Logic, or Logic for iPad?

But yes, the Session Players are more or less unique to Logic, no other DAW that I know of has anything like them. So if you are wanting to put demos or songs together quickly they are very useful.

What was the expensive vocal plugin, out of curiosity?

In short, no. There are some very capable DAWs on iOS and I am sure some people will chime in to praise their own chapel. but for now, nothing gets close to Logic for the workflow you're describing. You can transform the tiniest embryonic song idea and turn it into a more than decent demo within an hour. All you need is a bit of practice with the tools on board and a clear idea.
As you said it's nuts. It makes songwriting such a breeze. I personally wrote more songs in the last 1 and a half year than in the previous 3-4 years. I am so happy they brought it to iOS. Still wish it was a one time purchase. Now that I know how good it is (for my workflow at least) I wouldn't mind paying the desktop price instead of the yearly subscription.

desktop logic and I got Vocoflex, an offline ai vocal plugin for voice changing/cloning

  • There is even more depth if you want to take it further. You could record a live demo singing with a guitar or piano accompaniment and then use Logic to analyse the tempo, which the drummer track would then conform to.

Create a chord track to match the chords in the performance and then add a bass player and a keyboard player, and you now have a full band playing along with your original recording. You could even use the stem splitter to separate out the voice from the music in the recording. It's all pretty incredible.
