Some very solid points here…

So glad I gave up thinking of rock stardom while I was still at uni, and realising I played drums pretty badly…

  • The most successful in the music business understand the business part in addition to the music part. Make your money first and then get into music for the fun of it or make sure you have marketable skills you can use to supplement your career trajectory.

I mean, this is all common sense. Music as a career is extraordinarily competitive, same goes for actors in the movie/entertainment business. Learn business basics which will enable you to survive in the lean years.

  • I think the stronger point is the exploitative, predatory behaviour of those attracted to naive talent. ‘Git good, scrub’ can sound an awful lot like victim blaming when you are talking about actual children here.

Someone at some point may make a decision they will regret in any business which relies on "exploiting" talent or personality for exposure to a larger audience. Parents who choose to exploit their kids for a shot at great wealth or fame should think twice and young people or even adults should think twice (especially these days) about doing something for attention that could come back to bite them later. The best way to avoid problems is to learn as much as possible before trusting others completely in any line of work.

  • This business is called an INDUSTRY! They treat people (and in this case a 13 year old child) like machines to press the money out of IT.
Music INDUSTRY is a meat grinder … full stop.
And yes fully agree, u have to learn this brutal rules of this industry UPFRONT before diving in the fully packed shark tank.
