Visitors (dark ambient)

Just a bit of dark ambient rambling. Mitosynth, MiniOrchestra, Zeeon, Korg Module, PPG Infinite, Sunrizer, SugarBytes Factory, Riffler, DrumJam, Pure Piano, Jubal Flute, and a few others that I lost track of. I created 2 simple 8 measure MIDI patterns and ran them in 16 measure sections, overlapping every 8 measures. I did that 9 times. No particular outcome in mind. Just an experiment to see what I would get.

  • Nice! I really like when the drums come in. I am glad you made Dark Ambient song and not some contemporary Dark Ambient. 😉

  • Amazing work! And the piece of music lasted as long as it needed to be with a satisfying start, middle, and end. If the music was shorter, I would've said "make the track last longer". Any longer, and I wouldn't mind actually.

Maybe you told me before and I long since forgot, but what DAW/Creative Environment did you use? :) Was it a jam in AUM? Did you use Cubasis or Logic?

  • Excellent sound @Paulieworld. As @jwmmakerofmusic said, I would also have been perfectly fine with twice the playtime.

  • Nice! Interesting idea...hmm...

  • @ecou @jwmmakerofmusic @jo92346 @lasselu Thank you for listening! 3-4 minutes always seemed like a good length to me. No particular reason.

Jim, I used Cubasis 2.0 for this and almost everything else. I bought v3.0 and it has been problematic for me and the way I do things. It's probably the way I do things that is problematic. I know AUM is extremely popular. I have tried it many times but have a hard time with timing and getting things to line up. Maybe I just need to spend more time with it. In the meantime, I use it a lot to route synths into Cubasis that don't play nice in Audiobus 3.

Cool process mate. I may give Cubasis 3 another look then for Ambient. Whereas Cubasis 3 lacks a proper drum module, I can make up for that with OneShot if need be, or synthesised drums even. :) Seems Cubasis' strengths lie in how it handles audio.

Then again, soon I will get N-Track as it has some of the craziest automation features I've seen, including LFO-based automations!

I wish they had kept the midi editor like 2.0. The C3 midi editor is so slow to work with. You constantly have to change tool on the toolbar. That is my biggest gripe with C3.

I am testing Helium as a alternative.

  • @ecou well, I don’t use Cubase, I assumed it would be like Logic.

  • Really enjoyed this one Paul although I’m not sure it qualifies as dark… I think it’s more Raku myself 😊

Raku reminds me of some Cargo pants I had a few years ago. Karen went to visit her sister for a week and left me on my own to do my own laundry. Hot water and lots of detergent is good, right? Thanks for listening!

  • Ooo…Is that a pending klownshed video that you’re teasing on SC?
