  • Typing this as I'm listening. Glad I decided to come here right when you posted this neat track. Definitely has that smokey jazz feel, where you sit back in a lounger at a dimly-lit nightclub drinking a whiskey sour.

  • I’m sitting in the “old” Jazz Showcase, in the front row, with my big feet in the drummer’s kick bass. Working on my second Bombay Sapphire Martini. Extra dry. Two drink minimum, you know. Thank God Steve is driving, and I don’t have to get up for work tomorrow.

  • Nice composition in the traditional of Mile’s “Cool Modal Blue” period.
There is gold in the musical modes… they conjure up historic musical cultures.
Of course, as an improviser you tend to create the framework of a mode or scale and
then step outside of the strict list of allowed notes.

irrelevant rant: that "bug" hiding the player is really annoying.

I read cool modal blue... I ear gil evans. But if I think of gil evans, I ear gil an jaco in tokyo. BUT If I think of that I only ear jaco's solo in variation on the misery.

just to say your music evokes a lot and is dfinitely a continuation of the works of the greatests.

Another very interesting improv. I like how the piano is playing straight, but the rest in triplets. Somehow that makes the horn improv standout more with the cool slow swing feel. Surprised by the future drummer sounds. I shoulda checked it out when it was on sale yesterday. (Edit: hey it’s still on sale, may have to pick up a gift card for it today.)

@Dav, it’s Jazz Drummer, not Future Drummer! Sorry for my error. Future Drummeris good, but not so much for jazz.

  • Yeah, I just listened to the future drummer demos. It’s beat-boxy. Lol.

  • Thanks for listening @jwmmakerofmusic @Paulieworld @jo92346.
@McD i do feel like I’m often revisiting ghosts of yesteryear and value creating new, perhaps updated iterations of those sounds and feelings.
