First time out in Logic Pro: Solar Flare

So this was done in Logic Pro on a Mac, and marks both my first outing with Logic Pro and my first time working on music on Mac in over 13 years. I find the horn sounds in Logic to be breathtaking and the stock plugins to be quite good. Getting a full version of Alchemy outside Garageband is also wonderful. The drums, and figuring out how to use Ultrabeat, took me quite a bit of time, but I think finally got the basics down. Coming from iOS, Synthmaster 2 having my back (and at a deep discount) was most welcome.

  • Outstanding! Great cinematic soundtrack that reminds me of The Chase by Giorgio Moroder, in Midnight Express. I like yours better! I must have been grooving to it. My wife asked… what’s wrong with your head, honey? Don’t worry about the hardware format. We all just dig great music. Keep it up.

  • Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement, @Paulieworld!

  • That was f-cking incredible! The A section in Dorian reminded me of a crossover of Paul Van Dyk and Vangelis, and the B section in Mixolydian was divine with that piano.

So Synthmaster 2? You definitely mastered that synth. (Lame pun intended.) Now I want to dig into SM2 on my iPad (I purchased it ages ago, never used it. For shame, Jim. 😂 )

  • @jwmmakerofmusic , thank you so much! The biggest issue I have with SM2 is that it has a gazillion sounds (and I keep getting more sound packs, usually for free), so finding just the right sound can take a looooong time with a lot of patch trawling. But when you find the right one, it can be perfect.

Indeed, lol. For me personally, I'd probably build a patch from scratch myself. I usually do that with synths. With romplers is a different story.

  • Very lovely! What do you use for your transitions/build ups? Is that Alchemy too?

Thank you! I used a sample from my sample library (imported into the drum machine builder) for the buildups and SynthMaster 2 for the post transition "swooshes."

  • Very good stuff. Keep it up!

  • Nice work, enjoyed the changes of pace and mood very much 👌
