Mass tutorial - Patterns

Hi everyone!

One of the things I've noticed since launch is that it's not always clear the separation between Patterns and Physics in Mass. That's a hard thing for me to show in a 30-second app store promo or similar type of video.

So, I made a tutorial for Patterns, and it focuses on just that! No physics at all, just a walkthrough of the pattern-building system.

  • Thank you Tom! It was mostly: "I know" but then, a; "ah alright" snook in. 😀 This will be great for new users, for sure.

I saw ipad-youtuber Jade (star?) had a pretty long show on it just the other day, I didn't see it but he usually do pretty good tuts, if a bit all over.😃

  • Thanks @tom_ward. I really need to dive below the surface.

Definitely welcome. Would love it if you made a few more too @tom_ward ☺️
    I’ll rewatch Gav’s video too.
Am really excited about pairing this app with my new Digitone.
I’m finding it a bit hard to tame, a bit like a modular set up. Need to understand the principles so I can dial in more subtle stuff, because at the moment everything gets very wild very quickly!
    Great sequencer though!

  • Excellent @tom_ward!

Looking forward to the next tutorial on the physics side!

Nice, glad there was something in there for you!

I saw Jade's video yesterday. It was really good!

Thanks! Yeh, this app really rewards contact time and experimenting. Let me know if there's specific topics you'd like more video content on.

I have plans for a couple more dedicated tutorials like this, and would like to branch out into more use-case demo videos after that. Let me know if there's specific topics of interest for you! Gav's video is a great resource, too.

Let me know how it pairs with the Digitone. I've been working with a JX-08 recently and really enjoying the iPad + single hardware setup.

Something I like to do, which you can see in the "Pulse" factory preset, is strategically place Parts so that they will block other Parts from having full access to the composition area. This is really helpful when you want to constrain a CC to a certain range of values, for example. There will be some examples of this in the Physics tutorial I'm working on now. Internally, events have range restrictions applied to them, and I have some plans for expanding the UI to allow user control over that.

Thank you! The physics tutorial will be next.

  • This has me more interested in the product. I feel I have a much greater understanding of the product now and plan to buy next pay day (barring life emergencies).

Definitely seems like my sort of product :)
