Blueboard and ‘hold’ cc with LoopyPro

Anyone still using Blueboard with LoopyPro. I’m struggling to send a ‘hold cc’ message (for instance to effect erase) as any attempt to do so in Blueboard Program Change mode is confused with a simple Press on/off, and in its Control Change Mode the ‘hold’ command gets sent even where a simple ‘on/off’ control change should be transmitted. Is this an issue with iRig Blueboard or with all Bluetooth controllers. I don’t want to waste money and time on another if Bluetooth control is limited technically. All advice gratefully received!

Use CC or Notes mode. A PC message has no on/off so there is no way to know when. the pedal is released.

If the Blueboard is sending Program Changes, then it sounds like you may be using the Blueboard app for communication? If so you probably want to learn about direct BLE Midi connectivity with the 1.2.0+ firmware.

As long as you have the firmware updated to at least version 1.2.0 you can use a BLE Midi connection directly and not need the BlueBoard app to change the messages to note or CC. With the updated firmware, powering on the BlueBoard with button B pressed down sets notes mode, and powering on with button C pressed down sets CC mode.

    Notes Mode:

    • Switch A: note C3, velocity 100, momentary action
    • Switch B: note D3, velocity 100, momentary action
    • Switch C: note E3, velocity 100, momentary action
    • Switch D: note F3, velocity 100, momentary action

    CC Mode:

    • Switch A: CC#20, momentary operation
    • Switch B: CC#21, momentary operation
    • Switch C: CC#22, momentary operation
    • Switch D: CC#23, momentary operation
  • Thanks for this. I’ve managed to set the Blueboard to send cc 20, for instance, on Switch A, but binding to a switch to toggle between Rec/Play/Stop now shows ‘Hold’ not ‘Press’ when I arm Midi Learn. In other words, it’s all or nothing. I can’t figure out how to have the Rec and Stop buttons respond to On and Off messages but the Erase to receive and respond to a monetary operation. I’ve also got an Airstep Lite and have the same problem. I’ve followed a few tutorials on YouTube, including Max Yar with other pedals, but he seems to have no such issues with mixing On and Off and momentary/continuous operations.

I’m very new to this, and quite lost, I confess. Do you know of any templates or other solutions? I’m just trying to set up a simple REC, PLAY, ERASE button, synced to Switch A (on either device), but very much struggling to make sense of the app’s multitude of options. If I could even get one track up and running, I could figure out the rest from there. Many of the tutorials are great but there’s always something glossed over that turns out to be crucial to make it work!

    In any case, thanks again.

    See this troubleshooting guide:

    https://wiki.loopypro.com/Troubleshooting_MIDI

If midi learning a tap on pedal A is showing hold , it sounds like something isn’t set up up correctly. The troubleshooting page should help you figure it out and it shows what should happen when midi learning.

After going through it, let us know if it doesn’t solve your problem.

  • @peegeebee : can you confirm that you are using the Blueboard standalone and not using the Blueboard app?

If hold is detected, you can edit the binding to On.

Or, try notes instead. Sometimes that works more seamlessly.

If hold is being detected, I think it is worth troubleshooting why. In my experience, using a blueboard with CCs and notes are equally reliable.

  • @peegeebee - when you say you've configured the Blueboard to send CC 20, was that done through the Blueboard app, or by changing it to use one of the BLE Midi settings without the app, as mentioned above?

My experience differs. I have had BlueBoard CC's initially detected as hold sporadically. I never bothered to troubleshoot though, just edited the settings. The Blueboard was sending both On and Off, but it was still detected as a Hold. That said, I do continue to use CC's rather than notes.

But yes, it's worth troubleshooting if @peegeebee is up for it.
