RetroKits midi hub
Has anyone here used this??
I’m trying to find a device that can send MIDI out to multiple hardware synths from AUM and this image off their site sems to nail it!
https://retrokits.com/shop/rk006/
Also checking into this one. This one seems very customizable with the “pipe” app

I have both and underuse both to their full potential. They both work as advertised. The Blokas version has some custom midi plugin/scripting vibes -- similar to mozaic, without the programming language, as it consists of, as you say, PIPES.
I use the RK-006 for to go jams with multiple midi controllers, and the Blokas one in a permanent home set up and composing.
OscillatorSink vid for the midihub if you havent seen it.
I have no experience with either of the devices you mention, though am aware of them and trust they're good solutions.
Just want to throw out CME as a good manufacturer of midi devices solving some similar problems. Can be hard to get your head around all their options, but could possibly connect your hardware entirely wirelessly, or use one of their wired solutions.

You, have both, they are work great. Retrokits def recommended for iPad use.
I’ll def have to watch that!
My main intention is to send midi from apps like fugue machine, scaler 2, xequence out to multiple hardware synths from the iPad at the same time…
And i probably will not use most of the features these things have either lol just the basics but who knows maybe as time goes on i could find em more useful
Those looks like they cost less so thats not a bad thing at all! I’ll dig in
That Retrokits one really is calling my name so far
I’m also wondering, if anyone knows..
Could i use one of these with my digitone to sequence multiple synths…
Using MIDI from each of the 4 DT tracks…
Since the DT has only one MIDI out port but each track can send to a different MIDI channel, i trust that one of those could route it MIDI properly to my synths by setting the synth to receive on the correct channel?
Not all my synths have MIDI thru unfortunately 🤬
You get 16 channels of midi to route. If you reach a physical bottleneck a midi splitter would be all you would need and with 4 in and four out on each device you may not need it depending on the amount of hardware and the way you route it.
Im kinda new to MIDI routing…
If i wanted one device to route ipad to hardware…
And the DN sequencer to other hardware or ipad… which one would you recommend?
Think of MIDI as a BIG PIPE with other smaller pipes in it. Or better yet a railroad yard with switches that let you change tracks.
You have 16 Midi channels - each of those can be individually addressed to go to a specific destination with a combination of hardware and software. The MIDI cable (or bluetooth) CAN carry all 16 channels at once, its usually the musical hardware/software that decides which channel or multiple channels it listens to. In other words a MIDI signal can be filtered.
I would say EITHER device will be able to send a signal to your ipad AND to the Digi and to the other hardware and another ipad ( totes of 3 in the setup you mentioned - since you didnt list the number of other hardware ). You have 4 separate pipes and 16 channels to work with. In addition the DIGI should have midi out - so you can send sequences hither and yon.
In this scenario, from single MIDI OUT in Digitone, it seems to me the $70 CME Midi Thru6 (https://www.cme-pro.com/widi-thru6-bluetooth-midi-thru-box-splitter/ ) would provide all the functionality needed, plus includes integrated Bluetooth and other features).
Blokas Midihub is more powerful, can function as true 4-in/4-out device (with 4 different "Big Pipes"), but since Digitone has just a single MIDI OUT, all that's needed is a THRU device that can duplicate Digitone's single pipe across four different outputs. (Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken.)
EDIT: Or, CME has a $40 1 in / 5 out MIDI splitter that would solve the Digitone scenario for $40, lacks the Bluetooth that the device I linked previously has: https://www.cme-pro.com/product/midi-thru5-wc/
Thanks bro! Great info i appreciate it.
I see all these options like midi filter, midi thru, midi pass and im like.. i just want midi to send where i say haha so that is very helpful.
I don’t want to spend more than i need to, to just route stuff i only have like 5 synths and we’ll control em from DN and iOS so just keeping it simple!
This looks promising too for less than 200$
Damg! 40$ sounds really good! Haha i really don’t need anything to super extra atm…. That’s what i was wondering if midi thru could handle this so i appreciate the confirmation and help!
I’m going to add that one to my list now as well. The 70$ one cuz i like BT midi a lot
Plus you get 10% off your first order at CME so that’s good
One possible snafu, both devices linked allow for only one input at a time (even though the BT device lets you choose whether it's the BT or the wired input). So probably not optimal if you want to control synths through it from iOS and DN at the same time. (You could still do this, by routing DN into iOS device and combining it with iOS BT Midi there, but doesn't sound like good solution if one of your primary uses is wanting to send from DN and iOS device at the same time.)
