The Legacy of the Templars

The Legacy of the Templars is the final track on the A Templar's Tale album and brings together the main themes explored in the other tracks on the album.

This is my most ambitious album to date and has been in the works for over 12 months.

The music harks back to Classic 70s Progressive Rock and is a concept album, along similar lines to Rick Wakeman's King Arthur and Journey to the Centre of the Earth - complete with a narrator.

The narrator is Sir Geoffrey de Beaumont, a fictitious Templar, who recounts the Templar's Tale, interspersed with songs sung by myself and epic orchestral and choir arrangements, as well as more traditional rock instrumentation.

The album comes with a 44-page illustrated medieval-style booklet that contains the lyrics and background information.

It will be released on Friday 7th February 2025 but you can Pre-order a Digital Download and get The Legacy of the Templars track, on Bandcamp at:

  • Outstanding work, Colin! It’s great to set ambitious goals and achieve them. Good things take time. Congratulations on a job well done. I miss the Progressive Rock of those days. The Six Wives of Henry VIII is another great one. I played it so much that when I played side A, I could hear side B. King Crimson was another favorite. I could go on for hours. I miss vinyl albums and the ritual of opening them and putting them on the turntable. Another genre I miss is Jazz/Rock fusion. Return to Forever, Jean Luc Ponty, Brand X, etc. You would think that with the current production capabilities available, that those styles would make a comeback. I guess it’s easier (and more profitable) to just run a drum loop and rant about sex, drugs, and thugs. I hope that creators like yourself will inspire a new vision. I can feel it coming.

  • Thank you so much @Paulieworld - I have always loved Progressive Rock (and there is indeed a growing crowd of bands and fans of that genre - check out bands such as Comedy of Errors (album: Threnody for a Dead Queen) or Stuckfish (album: The Calling or The Watcher) or Oddleaf (album: Where Ideal and Denial Collide) to name just a few.
Only more recently getting into the Jazz/Fusion end of the spectrum!

  • Genesis was another favorite of mine. Saw them live when they were touring Then There Were Three. Killer light show and great head music. For great Jazz/Fusion I suggest Romantic Warrior by Return to Forever. Jean Luc Ponty - Enigmatic Ocean, all tracks are great, especially the song about the turtle. Also, Cosmic Messenger- Egocentric Molecules. I would play bass along with the record in my dorm room. One of my all time favorites was from, of all people, Little Feat! A Day At The Dog Races from Time Loves A Hero. Lowell George hated it, but he was overruled.

  • Epic work Colin, nice to know you’ve not been twiddling your thumbs the last few months 😊
Can only agree with Paul’s ( @Paulieworld ) suggestions especially Enigmatic Ocean which has Holdsworth and Stuermer on it , some amazing guitar playing.

  • Thanks @GeoTony . Yes, I have spent more time on this album than on any other music I have made so, hopefully, that will show in the end result 😀
