Fishman Triple Play Express (AUV access)

I'm curious about this unit in regards to using it inside Loopy Pro to trigger some AUVs. Does anyone know if that's possible? It looks like the companion app does not support AUV.

Can’t it send midi to other apps? I AM under the impression that the MIDI is available to other apps. According to their FAQ: “TriplePlay controllers work just like regular MIDI keyboard controllers with any DAW.”

  • It was so confusing I actually passed on a trade - dude wanted my ko2 and I wanted a midi pickup, but because it wasn’t clear about how it would work in iOS and I heard the tracking could be a little better ,i passed… sorry not much help there but I love fishman, just not sure about this

  • It's really just not clear. I'm going to pass unless someone with direct experience can verify things.

What’s not clear? The FAQ says it is available to hosts just like any other MIDI controller.

  • Yeah I wasn’t trying to confuse you/whatever @espiegel123 says is usually the right answer haha.

(I was just saying when i was looking at it a few months ago I found it less than ideal from the reviews )

  • @joshelliott : I'd definitely confirm before buying, but I would be surprised if the MIDI weren't available to all hosts based on both the FAQ and their past products.

  • After reading the FAQ it looks like it might work. Anyway Amazon has easy returns if it doesn't. 20ish ms of latency is kind of high though. I'm not sure but maybe even the GR-55 and SY-1000 have that kind of latency.

  • 20 ms is the latency of being 20 feet from your amp. Out of curiosity, where did you get that latency figure?

Everyone I know that has played the Fishman and midi-able Roland midi guitars has said that Fishman wins on both latency and tracking. And MIDI guitar 2 is considered better than the Roland but slightly inferior to the Fishman.

I understand the "20 feet from your amp" analogy. But In my experience 20ms latency is WAY too much to perform with.

    From the FAQ

    Overall latency:

    iOS = 7+9+2 = 18ms (high string) to 25ms (low string)
Mac or PC = 7+3+1 = 10ms (high string) to 17ms (low string)
MIDI Din or USB are typically 8-16ms

  • @joshelliott : if 20 ms isn’t tolerable to you, I guess midi guitar is probably going to be frustrating.

( fwiw, 20 feet from your amp = 20 ms isn’t an analogy. 20 ms is time it takes sound to travel 20 feet.)

    I had a Triple Play

Fishman TriplePlay Wireless MIDI Pickup https://a.co/d/2LMSCUM

I used it with the camera USB connector and the companion app that was made for iOS. Ultimately the latency was only slightly better than Midi Guitar 2.

My wife broke the USB transmitter/receiver so I can't use it anymore. I just remember that it was 4 gigabyttes of space that I didn't want to sacrifice and a lot more hassle than the performance bump was worth.

It was fun to play around with for a while but I would have been just as happy just using Midi Guitar 2. Your mileage may vary.

  • I have this, is pretty cool and flexible. Anything you'd like me to test?
