JWM - Krampusnacht (Dark Ambient in Cubasis 3)

Last week was the week from hell, and this piece of dark ambient describes it rather adequately. Used three sound sources...a random sample from freesound.org pitched down and stretched out and bathed in Timeless 3 and Cubasis' internal reverb. The iM1's Lore patch played at a low F key bathed in Pro-R2. And Cubasis' Lofi Piano striking an occasional upper F key bathed in two FAC Altezas. Mastered with Grand Finale 2, Cubasis' Brickwall set to -1dB to catch any stray peaks, and Youlean's Loudness Meter.

Please enjoy and comment. Peace. ✌️

Woohoo! 😃 Yep that's the aim I was going for was scary, since the Krampus in of himself is a pretty frightening concept.

Edit: I had debated whether to add sleighbells deep in the background, but I later decided against it since I felt it would be cheesy and distract from the atmosphere I was going for.

  • I wonder what it is about certain sounds that evoke fear. This has it in spades! This sounds ideal for AUM, but you did in Cubasis! I think the sleigh bells would have been a nice touch. Cool track.

  • Channeling your inner Irena on this one Jim… very dark !

Thank you so much mate. OMGOSH, how did I miss your reply since last month?! 😲 Doggone spacey brain.

Thank you so kindly, my friend. I do miss @Svetlovska being active here. The quality of her Dark Ambient is pretty difficult to match, let alone surpass! ❤️

It's a known bug between our forum and Soundcloud (not sure whose end it's on). But, maybe this will work better. Let's see....

  • That is so dark, I am trying to work out how your mind can conjure up a piece of ambient music like this? How did you know it was long enough, what made you go for those for those particular sounds? How did you know we would like it? It may be dark but I was completely relaxed whilst listening to it at 3.24am with my headphones on in bed…..the silence brought me back to reality. I liked it, it reminded me of listening to early Tangerine Dream’s Alpha Centuri back in the 70s.

A combination of Svetlovska leaving (this was definitely inspired by her amazing works), going through a really rough few days right before Christmas, and weed. 😂

How did you know it was long enough, what made you go for those for those particular sounds?

Well because I listen to Svetlovska's music, and I wanted to get it under 10 minutes so it could be recommended to other listeners.

How did you know we would like it?

I didn't. I just put it out there, and whoever likes it will like it. And whoever doesn't, doesn't. 😂

That's one helluva nice comparison! Tangerine Dream are one of my main inspos. Brian Eno and Jean-Michel Jarre and David Lynch also.

  • Very cool Jim. @Svetlovska would approuve.

Have you ever heard of the style of music called Dugeon synth ?

I take it you mean Dungeon Synth, I hope so or else I’ve just been listening to the wrong music lol.
On a serious note, this genre of music is something I have never heard of before, and if it wasn’t for Jim’s Krampusnacht, then I have missed out on listening to Dungeon Synth, but I understand why you asked your question, thank you for bringing this genre to our attention 🍻
    Mike.

It’s a good honest comparison, we share similar musical tastes and that’s why I recognised the TD influence, keep em coming 👍

Can't say that I have...yet. Will check it out once my headphones are finished charging for sure. ;) And I will say that I do believe you mean "Dungeon Synth". Hehe, so that's what I'll look up on Youtube.

Thanks mate. :) Well, I do have a longer thread of several of my January Ambient pieces for Jamuary (although some are better than others lol). In fact, I'll be uploading the 30-minute piece I just finished.

So stay tuned for that one. :)

Yes I meant Dungeon synth not Dungeon Synth 😄

Their is two extremes to the genre. In one side you get medieval Nintendo like music. On the Other side you get atmospheric dark music. The atmospheric genre is what I was directing you too.

Btw this type of music as it's genre roots in black metal. Mortiis is the artist that started it all.

Ooooo. 😃 I can't wait to check out both extremes. Might spark some new ideas for me.
