Has anyone here upgraded an ipad 5th gen to iOS 16?
I still have an extra older ipad 5th gen with iOS 10 on it. It works fine but is stuck with older apps and an older safari that wont handle newer websites well (even playing youtube vids is a hassle with it). Cant update most of its istalled apps in iOS 10. Thinking of upgrading to iOS 16, but ive read mixed reviews on doing that, some say it run too sluggish with iOS 16 and some say it runs fine.
Has anyone does this and if so how did it work out for you?

I run iPadOS 16 just fine on my Air 2, which uses the A8x chip compared to your 5th generation's A9.
I never noticed things slowing down between updates. However, it's possible I may not have noticed it in incremental upgrades over time. I can't really say for certain that you wouldn't notice something jumping from directly 10 to 16.
Maybe storage isn't an issue for you, but be mindful that the upgrade will eat up extra GBs.
FWIW, I kept my 5th gen on iOS 12. No regrets.
Thanks for the reply @wim and @telecharge. Hmm, didn’t think about losing more GB’s.
I’m on an ipad 5th generation, running 16.6 No problems so far.
That’s good to hear. Thanks.

I have always updated my older iPads to the latest iPadOS and never had issues. I have had more issues holding off on updates.
What kind of issues?
From what I can find it looks like iOS 16 installed size is about 7-8gb. iOS 10 about 2-3gb. So the impact is roughly 4 or 5 gb more. You'll need 10gb free at least temporarily to install it.
Hmm, thanks for that info, wim. Im not sure if I should update. Will have to weigh the pros and cons. Thanks all for your input.
I have had apps fail to load but load after an iPadOS update (I assume the apps themselves updated prior to the crash), and general slowdown of the iPad that has improved after an update.
