Alesis Nitro Max not registering

Hi!
I just got an Alesis Nitro Max edrum set. I have it plugged into my iPad Pro (usb b to usb in a usb c hub). I can successfully play the drums and have them register in other apps: melodic, garage band, digistix.
But in Loopy I add midi input and the nitro max is an option, but when I add it as an input it doesn’t register when I play anything on the kit. By not register I mean it isn’t sending anything to the separate digistix channel I added and there is no registered volume in the mixer on the midi input channel.

I’ve had a bet similar setup with my launchpad as midi input and it worked successfully, so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong or what to check.
