This is my opinion, of course respecting all points of view, but this is my take on the subject. To me, the act of “releasing albums or EPs” seems like an intense exercise in “look at me,” an incredible display of narcissism.
No one in their right mind should release their music in EP or album format with the intention of having others listen to it, especially when, objectively, 99% of what we create is of very low quality. The music I play (I have classical training in violin and piano) is for myself—to enjoy in my studio or to share with my family, whether by practicing together or just making noise.
I always compare it to painting. Most people who paint do so to pass the time or, at most, hang a painting in their home. Only those inept enough to consider themselves “artists” take their work to galleries or exhibitions, where they go entirely unnoticed because they offer nothing of value. My music offers nothing to anyone. It offers something to me, in the moment I spend on it. In fact, I never save or release anything. It’s just a hobby.
The need for approval in today’s society is alarming, a reflection of a deeply rooted immaturity and lack of personal development that genuinely concerns me.
After this calm reflection, I’ll add that, obviously, this isn’t my first MacBook, but it’s the first one with such portability and power that I can forget it’s a laptop.
I’ve repurposed my old MacBook to be part of my DJ setup, connected to a DJ-1000, and as for the Windows PC I used with Ableton Live, it’s now solely a workstation + flight simulation platform. Now those are “tools”…
